Alan Wake's first novel is hailed as a masterpiece of horror, its source material having come from dreams that began just before meeting his fiancee Alice. Her sudden dissappearance leaves him devastated. Suffering from insomnia, he can no longer write, nor even dream. Desperate for help he travels to a sleep clinic in the secluded, small town of Bright Falls, Washington.

At the clinic he overcomes his insomnia, but meets a woman that looks remarkably like Alice. He begins to have nightmares, and starts writing a new novel based upon them, but soon finds that Bright Falls appears to be turning into the horrible place of his nightmares. With gun and flashlight in hand, he must find out what's going on.

More About Alan Wake

A highly anticipated game for years now, Alan Wake is being called a "psychological action thriller" by developer Remedy Entertainment. The graphics and scope are in themselves stunning, and will demand high end hardware. A tech demo of the game displayed at the 2006 Intel Developer Forum utilized an Intel Core 2 Quad processor clocked at 3.73GHz, and it's suggested that single core processors will be unsuitable.

Realistic pixel shading and dynamic shadows will play a big role, as Alan's struggle is both figuratively and literally one of "light against darkness". An unusual form of combat will exist in the game, in which Alan can and must use light as both weapon and defense. Even his flashlight can apparently weaken or hurt enemies.

A release date has yet to be announced by publisher Microsoft Game Studios. Alan Wake will be exclusively a Windows Vista/xBox 360 title and seems poised to achieve a new milestone in realistic, massive, free roaming virtual environments.
