Earth Defence Force 2017 (EDF) casts the player as a soldier enlisted in the Earth Defence Force, a body created in response to the potential threat of alien species after Humanity receives its first extra-terrestrial radio transmission.

EDF is a run-and-gun game ostensibly similar to Lost Planet and other third-person shooters. Its budget price point and cheesy production have earned it a cult following.
