History & Info

The first Madden was NOT released on the Genesis! There is a giant misconception about what was the first Madden, allow me to enlighten you. The first Madden football was released in 1989 on the Apple II, Commodore 64, and DOS. Produced by Park Place Productions, and called "John Madden Football". Confused easily with the game called "John Madden Football" also produced by Park Place and released in late 1990 on Genesis, SNES and Amiga. Most Madden fans refer to this game as "Madden 91". They did in fact, share the same name, about the only thing in common with the games.

John Madden Football went on the market and blew up. Sales aren't as high as they are in this day and age, but at the time, it was one of the best selling games ever. It launched the Madden franchise and there was no looking back, this is the one that started it all, and pretty much secured Electronic Arts financially and etched their name in gaming history.

Hoo's Review!

Alright well this game is simply stunning, i will never forget opening this for Christmas, or it was my birthday, one of the two. When i first popped this baby in my Genesis, I was floored. I've played Tecmo Bowl, John Elway's Football etc etc for the Nintendo, thats the level of football i was use to. I was in the for the biggest surprise ever! You could control your own players with ease. You could run, pass, fall back in the pocket, intercept, dive, sprint, jump, do things that you couldn't of dreamed of, and the graphics, they were stunning. A very beautiful game. It was the most involved immersive game at the time, you could dig into a season mode. There was nothing that could compare with it, and to this day is on my top 10 games list of all time.

I could go on and on about this game forever, however to sum up this review, it is one of the best, a legend, a glorious game.

**All my Madden reviews will be edited in the future when i play them all again this weekend**
