Shining Force

Shining Force was a tactical turns-based roleplaying game released for the Mega Drive. You recruit members for your force and deploy their individual skills in battles that use a chess-like grid.

Overall Rating: exceptional

Bottom Line: Play it!
A classic tactical RPG from the Sega Genesis era, Shining Force sticks to the roots of Tactical RPGS - move your units, attack, survive - without trying to do anything fancy, and it works like a charm. As a classic game, it has some moments that nowadays would be considered cheesy, and the graphics are definitely lacking compared to modern games, but these points are both moot. Of all the tactical RPG's I've played, I've yet to play a series with as interesting combat as Shining Force, and the original had some of the most interesting battles (my favorite is Shade Abbey).
