Assassin's Creed is one of those games that is, as many have pointed out, a victim of its immense pre-release media attention. What is good for the bottom line is often not good for retaining preconceived notions. After the first slate of reviews hit the gaming media spectrum, the mixed nature of them gave me a little pause in figuring out whether to buy this game or not. I fell into the hype that the media generated for this, and at first I felt that this could be a huge letdown if it didn't live up to those promises.

I bought it, and loved it. But I did not love it for what I was originally attracted to about the gameplay, namely the sandbox nature coupled with a serious and realistic historical background. Neither of those exactly holds true (although I guess it could still be considered to have a bit of the GTA blood in its veins). However, what this game does well is surprise you with the amount of care that went into the world that you don't even care about what limits are imposed on you , even causing you to forget how repetitive the gameplay actually is.

I think a game like this can show us that expectations are healthy, but they should be more general. A game, particular those of this generation, can often do many things well but still fall short in the eyes of many if it wasn't what they expected. From now on I will attempt to go into all my future game purchases with a more open mind and genuinely attempt to judge it on its own merits rather than ones imposed on it by hype.

this game is totally awesome. The graphics are awesome. A long adventure, kinda like prince of persia, but definetly next gen. YOu have so many chocies in this game on how to make that perfect kill. Either up f ront and run from the guards, or make him follow you and then strike. The possiblites are endless. The best part is the story line is extremely deep. A must have.
