More About Club Penguin
"Have you ever wondered what penguins do for fun? Hanging around the South Pole is a thrill, but when a penguin really wants to chill out and kick back, he waddles over to the Club. Club Penguin, that is.
Create a free account, pick a name and a penguin, and you're on your way. First though, parents need to choose what kind of chat you can use. There's "Easy Chat," which allows players to converse with a controlled series of common greetings, questions, and answers. Then there's the more conventional chat mode for older kids. It's filtered to screen out profanity and bullying, although the site warns it's not infallible. There are also human monitors watching the game.
Your penguin lands in the center of town, where you can visit the cafe or the disco and try some fancy dance moves. Almost everywhere you visit there is a game you can play -- whether it's catching bags of coffee beans as they are tossed off the delivery truck, or racing another player down the ski slope.
Each game wins you virtual coins, which add up. Unfortunately, there's very little you can spend them on unless you have a paid membership to the site. Members can "buy" virtual clothes and outfit their igloos with the latest gear.
There's still plenty to do in the free version, including just waddling around and making new friends." --commonsensemedia.org
