Dragon Kingdoms VI
DRAGON KINGDOMS: Heroes of the Past
The Dragon Kingdoms series has a rich, storied past spanning nine years and four RPG Makers. From Dragon Kingdoms I, an early and somewhat clichéd game where the hero finds the six towers that are said to contain evil and defeat the foes within, to Dragon Kingdoms II, where you follow 11 characters through seven chapters in order to restore a great legend to the world, to Dragon Kingdoms III, where an evil moon has returned to the world's space and disasters are occurring everywhere, to Dragon Kingdoms IV, where you again follow the characters through chapters, this time, five chapters, and restore the elements to normal, to Dragon Kingdoms V, where the world has been shattered, and it's up to a young swordsman to recover the shards of the planet, and finally Dragon Kingdoms VI, which will be explained shortly.
Nine years, four RPG Makers.
The series started in September 1998.
Dragon Kingdoms: Birth of a Legend, released in January 1999 for RPG Maker 2 (think RPG Maker for PSone, and think one game back).
Dragon Kingdoms II: Legend of the Great Sword, released in July 1999 for RPG Maker 2.
Dragon Kingdoms III: Cycle of Fate, released in February 2000 for RPG Maker 95.
Dragon Kingdoms IV: Trouble with the Elements, released in October 2001 for RPG Maker 2000.
Dragon Kingdoms V: Shards of Creation, released in December 2004 for RPG Maker 2000.
Plus Birth of a Legend, a remake of the first game, for RPG Maker XP, and Legend of the Great Sword, a remake of the second game, Maker not decided yet, but possibly RMVX.
STORY
On an island in the middle of a vast cosmos, a beautiful island paradise full of life, is the remains of a legend. For a young man lives on this island- he's said to be the only one that can return the island into a full world. Even though this island is peaceful, there is trouble in the past, within the other Eras. A Time Demon is altering the history of the worlds, and Kevin must do something to stop this mysterious beast from succeeding- unless he wishes to disappear from existence. For if the Time Demon causes something to happen that removes his predecessors... Kevin will no longer exist! Luckily, Kevin has a tool to assist him in his quest- a time vehicle, Timeveh, which can whisk him off to any point in the past. His giant friend, William, knows where Kevin should go, as he knows more about the past than many people realize. And during his quest, Kevin will find some people to help in his quest to stop the Time Demon from ruining the past!
CONCEPTS
Dragon Kingdoms: Heroes of the Past will contain some concepts that aren't usually seen in RPG Maker games, and not many commercial RPGs, either. The Icon system from Shards of Creation has returned, and has been extended. In addition to turning into a ghost and being invisible to most enemies and hopping across a pond as a frog, many new abilities are now available!
Here's a few of the notable abilities:
Dragon Icon- Kevin turns into a dragon and flies around, roasting the enemies! Don't use it on fire enemies, though.
Ghost Icon- Kevin turns into a ghost and can go through some walls (only in a certain direction). He's also invisible to enemies for 30 seconds, with the exception of ghosts and bosses.
Giant Icon- Kevin turns into a giant! Any enemies/obstacles met in this form will be smashed. Also, the field looks smaller. Fairly rare, though.
Ion Icon- Kevin turns into pure energy and can destroy the enemies! However, these icons are rare.
Many more icons will appear in-game, including some you might never expect.
Also, you can thrash the environment! If you don't like the shop, do something about it. Smash items, tables, even the whole store! However, there is an Alignment concept as well as a Warning concept. How do they work? Well... the Alignment runs from -100 to +100, with 0 being neutral. This will affect what characters join your party. (NOTE: In some cases, being negative alignment will give you BETTER characters) If your alignment is too high or low relative to your party members, they'll likely leave. Also, William will become quite disgusted with you, if your alignment becomes too evil, to the point where he'll stop helping you (no transport, no additional item storage, etc). What happens if you let the alignment get to -100? Try it, but beware. As for the Warning concept, it goes from 0 to 10. Too many destructive acts in a short time will increase the warning level. The closer it gets to 10, the worse William's mood will become toward you. Do you really want to let it become 10?
Okay, what about leveling up by fighting enemies? It won't happen. Levels have been changed to stat levels, such as HP, MP, attack power, etc. And the stat levels increase at BOSS battles, or through training. Fighting enemies still has a purpose, however. You find weaknesses that way, and you keep the characters' stats from dropping from not fighting! However, your characters have weaknesses, too:
STRENGTH/WEAKNESS SCALE
F= The attack/spell heals the character(s) by 50%.
E= The attack/spell's effectiveness is only 1/50th of normal.
D= Attack/spell only has 1/5 normal effect.
C= Attack/spell does normal damage- the majority of skills fall here.
B= Attack/spell does 5 times more damage.
A= Attack/spell does 50 times more damage.
S= Attack/spell automatically kills target.
Healing and positive status effect skills/spells have an opposite effect: S is full healing, F damages character(s) by half (think Zombies).
LIGHTING LEVELS
Dragon Kingdoms: Heroes of the Past has multiple lighting levels, for morning, afternoon, evening, night, rain, snow, or duststorm. In addition, the townspeople will act differently based on these conditions: in rain, they'll head inside, at night, they may not be outside, and in a snowstorm, you won't see many people, either.
CURRENCY
Is Dracon, still gold coins, but with a different name. Dracon was the name of the most damaging spell in Dragon Kingdoms: Birth of a Legend. A huge dragon would come and roast the enemies for incredible damage.
CHARACTERS
Kevin Regies
Age: 17
Height: 5 ' 9"
Weight: 140 lbs.
Birthday March 30
Green hair/eyes
+0
Kevin is a young man said to be descended from an earlier line of heroes. In fact, it's said that the reason he has such skill in weapons is because he's the son of the great hero, Joshua, who led the quest to return the world to its whole form. However, almost no one knows the truth. In his past, Kevin was said to be in a burning down house, and barely survived. His parents didn't make it, though... what gets him through his days now is his close friends, Aaron and William. Nothing will happen if the rating reaches -50/+50, because he can't leave himself.
Aaron Schaeffer
Age: 18
Height: 5 ' 11"
Weight: 150 lbs.
Birthday July 16
Red hair/brown eyes
+0
Aaron is one of Kevin's friends, he's believed to have been close to him since he was a little kid. They used to go on adventures all around the island, much to the dismay of many of the people in the town. When he was 10 and Kevin was 9, they got into BIG trouble for escaping town in the middle of the night. Aaron likes to climb mountains, something he picked up from his own father, who used to be an explorer in his younger years. However, his parents don't want him to go into the mountains. His mom is a little more understanding of him, as even though she doesn't want him to go out there, he is a young adult now. At -50, Aaron will get upset with Kevin, but he won't leave.
Kelly Larsen
Age: 17
Height: 5 ' 4"
Weight: 120 lbs.
Birthday October 22
Black hair/blue eyes
-25
Kelly was at one time Kevin's girlfriend, but a dispute came up, when he decided he'd rather go to the mountains with Aaron than see her one day. She's quite jealous that Kevin seems to spend more time with his other friends than with her. She doesn't realize, though, that it's her own personality that sent him away. She can be sweet but can also be annoying, always cutting into Kevin's conversations, whether with her or his other friends. Now, she's looking for a boyfriend- it's said she's been looking at William rather strangely as of late... At +25, she will say Kevin's too much of a goody-two-shoes to deserve her in his party.
Bowie Arche
Age: 23
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 170 lbs.
Birthday February 2
Brown hair/green eyes
+30
Bowie is a great bowman, and he could be a great asset in Kevin's quest. However, Bowie won't join Kevin's party if he's too evil. Bowie is the one in charge of hunting for food for the town, but he has some friends that can take his place, if needed. At -20, Bowie gets upset with Kevin and may leave.
Darke Oscura
Age: Unknown
Height: 5 ' 11"
Weight: 160 lbs.
Birthday December 21
Black hair/gray eyes
-45
Darke is a powerful ninja. She knows all sorts of tricks, such as setting off smoke balls to escape, deadly darts, and even coming up behind an enemy. However, Darke won't join Kevin's party if he's too good. She could be a great party member to have, just don't let Kevin's alignment go more than +5.
William
Age: Unknown, but looks about 18
Height: roughly 120'
Weight: 1,500,000 lbs.
Birthday March 24
Brown hair/blue eyes
N/A, doesn't join party
William is Kevin and Aaron's giant friend, and has been as such for a long time. They briefly got into a tough spot when Kevin escaped the Palace with Aaron and went out in the middle of the night, but they soon returned to normal relations. William is one guy you don't want to get on the bad side with, but that will happen at -70 alignment, at which point he'll become disgusted with Kevin. At -90, he'll quit accepting items from you. At -100, well, you might as well reset. Or reload, in this case. Unless you believe you can take down an incredibly furious twelve-story giant, you better keep the alignment at -99 or higher. He knows a lot about the past, and helps Kevin and his group get to the Timeveh, and lets them know where to go. He doesn't seem to change much over time, but that may be because his kind ages much slower than the other characters. It takes about 2,000 years to equal 1 Gigan (his race) year. Therefore, he's seen a lot happen... And his lifeforce is strong, its presence keeps the Titans, REALLY huge monsters, in their prison.
