In the 25th century, mankind created cybernetic-hybrid machines, or Cybrids. These computers were used for mining, space exploration, and eventually combat. They were placed inside of HERCULAN machines because they were faster thinking pilots that could not die. As more and more Cybrid armies were created and sent against each other, the Cybrids began to realize they could in fact control the humans. Cybrids then took over the Earth save for a small, hidden military base. A revolution against the Cybrids is underway, and you are a pilot in the resistance.
You outfit your Herc and create a squad to fight against the Cybrids. Each Herc has a different number of weapon mounts, energy level, speed, and shields, so you must choose the right one for the right mission. The Hercs control like a tank with a torso that can turn independently from its legs.
