This game is a very unique and original idea,

purely developed by current high school student

Adam Bielinski. In the game, you are a pulsating globe of energy that hurls particles at your enemies, purely using physics, namely charge.
Tutorial is in-game.

I loved this game! It's especially fun playing with a tablet PC. I'd love to try it on a DS or Wii.

I wish that the attract button had more uses, it's not too reliable as a shield, but it's such a cool idea I keep using it anyway. It would be cool if destroyed enemies turned into sparkles themselves.

I can't actually port it to linux :(
It was written for my grade 11 programming class, and we were learning Object Oriented Turing, which is only Windows. The source IS open though! You could use the source and port it yourself!

This game is totally awesome, just played it for about a half hour straight, and I was happy :D

Also, the way it pauses when you move your mouse off screen is awesome, it will most likely be a great game to sneak in during a computer class (teehee)

Too bad that download link isn't working. Needs some mirrors, because that lame 4shared thing doesn't want to work. The javascript thing points to:

But the site just sits there and forgets to gimme the damn file. >:[

Great game Adam, I can't wait to play it on the Xbox 360. It really needs a story mode/or more objectives.

Actually, you don't have to go through all of that to "replace" the songs and such. You can just add music (sorry, mp3 only) in to the folder, and it will play all of them at random. To add backgrounds, same idea, and it will shuffle them at random (make sure they are jpg though)

It is possible to edit this game customly. Easy too. With no modding tools.

[-------------Music--------------]

Simply, open the music folder, delete the file there, put in an MP3, and then rename it "In-Game".

I have the game playing Gorillaz' "White Light" because of this"

You can do the same thing with sounds, with WAV files and naming them after the sound you want to replace.

[-----------BG Image--------]

In the "backgrounds" folder, select "CD Cover2" and right-click. Select "Edit", and it should bring up MS Paint. Have your way with it, save, and voila!

I hope you enjoy the results. ;)

Great game! It's got the difficulty that makes it a great time waster. The fact that you just "pick up and play" makes it really fun. No complex HP, MP, or unneccesary numbers.

I agree that no story is better than a cheesy story, but if it's forever without story it detracts a bit from the game, because I don't really know what I am, what I'm doing, what the things are that I'm killing, or why I'm killing them.

BTW, indygamer.blogspot.com reviewed Forces; it's a short review, but hopefully it'll help popularize the game.

I didn't notice the radar bubbles, I should be more observant.

I like the idea and game play, but the difficulty curve is insanely too easy, to prove this, I took a screen shot of me on level 100.

Lol, that's a pretty easy photoshop job. . .

"Haha, FalseMyrmidon, I had actually had a storyline at one point in the development stage. It involved nanobots hurling "something" at viruses in someone's bloodstream that needs saving, but the graphical requirements, coupled with how cheesy that is, just killed the idea."

...and may it rest in peace.

Responding to Paul Eres: "giving the game some story or background (it's a bit confusing what exactly you are and what exactly you're fighting, there's not much context to it),"

It's fine, it doesn't need a backstory. Giving it a backstory would just be cheesey.

It's true. It is too easy, but I ran into performance problems with Turing, so I can't make the enemies go faster (without having to use mathematics that is too advanced for me to learn and retrofit into my engine) or make more of. It was a design flaw... and I've learned from it. The super-powers are too powerful.
If you want to up the difficulty, try not using them ;)

I really enjoyed this in the short amount of time I had to play it. I would agree with what has been said above by Paul Eres. I think he covered all the bases (except for graphics which I think is part of what makes the game so excellent. Simple but complex.

Responding to the first bit about graphics by Paul Eres... I really wish I could implement those features. Turing is, unfortunately, not a good language for, well, anything. It's graphics are horrible, which is why I chose to use simple lines and polygons as enemies.
Because of this, I'm planning on actually remaking the game in a different language.
However, about your suggestion for a radar map... I did make something like that, though it's not obvious. I called it "Off screen Bubbles" in the options page. You might notice these small white bubbles at the edge of the screen growing and shrinking... they indicate the direction and distance an enemy is from the screen.

I must say, though, that your idea of constantly making sparkles is very interesting...

I also wrote a review, but I've a few suggestions you might consider (though you've probably had these ideas yourself): disabling the mouse cursor when it's over the window so that it doesn't interfere with seeing what it's covering, using anti-aliased, transparent, or additively blended lines (they seem to be used in the title screen but not in the game itself), using a bitmapped font rather than a true type font, giving the game some story or background (it's a bit confusing what exactly you are and what exactly you're fighting, there's not much context to it), and some sort of radar map feature which will indicate in which direction more enemies lie (even if it's just some arrows at the edge of the screen pointing in the direction of off-screen enemies, it would help with navigation). And, as one of the reviews mentioned, the special abilities are a little overpowered, they probably should either be weakened or should deplete the special ability power bar more quickly.

One major change with the controls that you might consider is to make drawing "automatic" -- without having to hold the left mouse button it would occur all the time, and to use the left mouse button for repulsion and the right mouse button for attraction. I felt that attraction (S on the keyboard) was useful but I never used it because it wasn't on the mouse so it was hard to activate at a moment's notice; plus it just feels more aesthetically balanced to put both attraction and repulsion on the mouse. But on the other hand you'd lose the feeling of "drawing" that you get with holding the left mouse button to draw, so it might be better as it is now. It's something I'd experiment with, or perhaps give the player the option to adjust the controls around.

I really think this game can begin a new attraction-repulsion shmup genre.
