"In a world where the Soviet Union won the Cold War, a fierce conflict is unfolding in the streets of America. Taking on the role of Christopher Stone, players evolve from an average New Yorker into a fearless patriot who recruits and leads an army of freedom fighters in the streets of New York City. Freedom Fighters combines the depth of a squad based game with the intensity of an action-packed war game that unfolds in the streets, subways, and buildings of the city."--From EA's description.

Overall Rating: well done

Bottom Line: While not the prettiest or smartest girl at the prom, it still manages to be a fun date.
Disclaimer: I rescued this game from the bargin bin for about twenty bucks. That might have some influence on my opinion. Also, this game was played on "medium" difficulty.

Cold War-era communists... while it may be politically incorrect, the only opponent more fun to shoot at is a WWII-era Nazi. Freedom Fighters provide this kind of entertainment in spades and despite a steep learning curve and some classic Soviet Bloc cliches, it keeps me coming back for just one more level, one more cutscene...

Gameplay: Typical third person shooter. If you've played Tomb Raider or Mercenaries, you should have a pretty good idea what to expect here. The controls are juggled to make room for the squad command but it's still the same.
Difficulty quickly scales upward after the player completes the initial tutorial, expect to die many, many times until you get into the groove of things. And once you learn how to command a squad, your odds of survival increase dramatically. Even then, this is not a game for the easily frustrated or those that don't like a challenge. That being said, there are moments where it rewards players who think strategically and outmanuvers the computer.

Graphics: Average graphics, not particularly bad for a PS2 game. Except something a little less then Mercenaries and you have the idea.

Replay Value: For replay, the game boasts four difficulties (from Demonstrator to Revolutionary) and large levels with many little nooks and crannies that the player will not completely explore the first time. Not alot but enough for a second play-through.

Fun Factor: Yes, I'm having fun playing this. It's not the most fun I've ever had but it's pretty good. It's a good buy if you're looking for a little shooter action.
Learning Curve: Takes a second
