I personaly bought Garry's Mod out of the blue or as a newbie.

I had never ever heard or played GMod before, its a great learning and physics based game in which you can build anything in the world if enough effort went into it.

Alot of new Gamemodes are being created all the time by different teams to make GMod have different abilities e.g. Roleplay; being a citizen with a job, a criminal breaking the law or just being a plain unemployed person. And along with the other Gamemodes you can enjoy a great game.

Like to build? Like to make comics? Like to do racing, roleplaying and whatever? This game is for you, then. It may take a while to learn how the tools work, but once you know how to use them, this game is a blast. Modding the game even further provides even more enjoyment. Lua coding allows you to make tools and what-not. I recommend this game if you like the idea of a game where you can do pretty much anything you want. May get boring by yourself, but not if you play multiplayer with a few players. Then you can do car races and more! Try this game today! Come on, it's only 10 dollars if you have a Source Game already. So, hope you have fun!

An amazing game, great for playing around with the source engine and just generally making crazy things!

The best thing about this game is that there are no targets to be completed so you can do whatever you want.You can spawn just about any item you want from other source games, NPC's and ragdolls.

The main reason for this mod being excellent is that it has no defined goals - you can do whatever you really want. There are 2 main things you can do in Garry's Mod: you can construct your own contraptions, complex or simple and you can create screenshots with 'posed' ragdolls and props (this feature implemented into the earlier versions of Garry's Mod started the creation of comics).

It is incredibly user-friendly, as each tool or feature has a small description of what it does. The tools take a little while to get used to, but your contraptions and poses will end up being perfect after you get used to the tools.

It has almost unlimited replay value, you won't do the same thing twice. It has a constraint to let you create whatever contraption you want.

Another good thing about it is that the Facepunch Studios community are constantly releasing new models/reskins, weapons, gamemodes, scripted entities, maps and other addons. This only adds to the enormity and possibilities.

In Garry's Mod, your only limit is your own creativity.

This mod with its humble beginnings of simple rope constraints has bloomed in to a powerful sandbox mod that has held me riveted in front of my monitor for hours on end. Using simple yet powerful tools like "weld" to hold some props together, "wheel" to place wheels on your contraption, and "thrusters" to make that baby move, and you have made a simple vehicle! The possibilities only grow from there. It might take awhile to get used to all of the different things that you can do, but every thing is pretty simple, and there are help boxes to guide you through. Perhaps you want to add some neat accessories to your car make it look like a speed demon. You might even want to ditch those basic wheels in favor of some spiffy new wings so you can take to the skys! Not enough props, or just not the props you really want with Half Life 2? Adding user created content from the community is simple in Garry's Mod, just drag the appropriate folders into their matching sets.

Garry's Mod 9 is a free version of GMod that has almost the full functionality of GMod 10; but if GMod 9 isn't enough for you the $10 for Garry's Mod 10 will get you a refined look, new tools, optimized code, streamlined game play, post processing effects, and there is still more to come! Getting bored of making the same thing over and over again? Maybe you just don't want to put in the effort of making something complex? There are always the alternate game modes created by the community, like Wood Wars, where you create fortresses of wood, and then battle to the death.

Alas, Garry's Mod is not all fun in the sun (or dark moldy basement), some frustrating things that are holding the mod back are surprisingly enough not always from the mod. The physics engine is not always powerful enough and can give you problems with minor glitches that can turn in to major headaches. Constructing contraptions of epic proportions require hardware in your computer with equivalent muscle. If you are playing online the server can very quickly be bogged down by too many props or physics interactions, not to mention what griefers can do with the tools.

All in all Garry's Mod is a very well made mod for Half Life 2, with a robust tool set, and hundreds of stock and user created resources to use them on. Ultimately this game has three limitations, the source engine, the hardware in your computer, and your imagination.

Insane fun.

Those are the words that go through your head while you play this game. It is the ultimate sandbox construction game ever made. No matter what you want to do with it(construction, posing, racing homemade cars, having giant robot battles, see how many enemy robots you can kill using your watermelon-a-pult) it doesn't matter, it is always fun.

Bored of the normal tools and models? Download one of the thousand user created mods made by the GMod community.

For 10$ I have had around 250 hours of fun. Let's do the math here 10/250, that's about 4 cents per hour. It sure as hell is worth the price.

So if you ever feel like playing one of the best SOURCE mods ever, just pay the 10$. Even if you don't like it (which I doubt) ten bucks won't bankrupt you.

I don't care who you are, as long as you have a bit of patience. Garry's Mod (henceforth known as Gmod or Gmod 10) is the greatest SOURCE mod to have ever been invented. You just need a little bit of time to get used to the controls, and off you go! Worth the $10, and definitely a step up from Garry's Mod 9.

This is simply my favorite game! It is total time consumer, it has the most open ended game play I've ever been through, it's pretty much like "Here, take the best physics and game engine in the world and do what ever you want" thats what it says, the only problem is there IS a learning curve its not steep nor is it shallow. Once you get into doing things other then crushing or shooting NPCs, thats when the real fun starts, build a base, build a giant robot, build a giant robot base. It doesn't matter, you can do anything in this game, I mean ANYTHING. From Zombie VS Human games to 10 guys vs an entire army RPGs, its completely up to you.

With everything that is there from a fresh install from community made side mods, this game puts countless hours of play together. A must buy for anyone who loves half life 2 or just having fun in general.

The first time I booted up this mod (back in version 9), it blew my mind. I was playing on a Celeron 1GHz with 256MB of RAM, and a Geforce 5200FX. It didn't matter to me that the game ran at about 20fps on lowest settings, I was having fun. The learning curve is cake, as soon as you're in, you pretty much can have a ton of fun with it. But getting really good at using all the tools takes ages. Seeing as though there's no way to win, there's not really any way to get frustrated at the start.

Once you dive into the game and see what you're doing, what you can do, and what you haven't done yet, you realize that this is definitely the deepest mod out there. There's so much to do, and if you're creative enough, you could easily get 200+ hours of gameplay out of the mod. It's also one of those things you just keep going at to get better at, it's an art. Doing things when you're a beginner is easy, but doing them WELL takes hours of practice.

From ragdoll posing for comics, to making contraptions with the robust physics of the Source engine, to just throwing crap around or killing your friends online, the possibilities in Garry's mod are very nearly the most free you can be in a first person shooter. With the implementation of Lua, Garry's Mod is also really easy to mod for anyone who knows anything about Lua/Source engine/modelling, if you take the time.

A DEFINITE must-buy for any Source engine game owner.

Garry's Mod is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in low level modification work to learn a relatively simple scripting language and jump into the world of actually DEVELOPING content rather than devouring it. Although it still has some flaws about it in the way of lack of organisation and a lacking of documentation, GMod has proved a fantastic portal through which to make stuff.

I'm just talking about the scripting because that's my current obssession - sandbox is a thrill, especially the first times you do things (create a small warzone of Combines and Rebels; work out how to make a flying machine WITHOUT hoverballs; discover the effectiveness of a manually constructed gun emplacement against Antlion Guards). I suggest GMod to anyone to appreciates freedom - although with developers working on more and more weapons and gamemodes, fans of shooters may find home in the community.

While it can take a few minutes to come to terms with the sheer magnitude of options spilled onto your plate upon starting up Garry's Mod, the updated Source Engine and the in-depth care provided to new users serves to ease the entryway for anyone interested in scaling up to the massive constructions or complex ragdoll posings that the Garry's Mod community has produced.

This mod is for the truly imaginative, and, with some patience, that imagination can run wild.

Garry's Mod is an ultimate mixture of the best games on the planet. Why? Because, it allows you to be God for a day (or however long you want) and do whatever you want! The multiplayer is an important feature, as it allows the possibility of endless fun activities such as racing, role-playing, deathmatch, NPC wars, fort wars, contraption contests, war machine making, and just constructing awesome things. It takes a while to know how to use all the tools, that's the only downside. You should definitely play this game, and for only 10$, it's an amazing deal! Since there are unlimited things to do, with user created content always being made and so vast a selection of ideas, you could play it over and over and never get tired.

Garry's Mod 10 is the natural evolution of a mod that has been around for a while, and it certainly lives up to its hype. However, the game is a sandbox game, and some people might be bored by the complete lack of any goals or purpose.

Learning curve: It takes a bit to learn the controls, and a bit longer to master them. The game's controls are fairly intuitive, using standard WASD movement. The finer points of control, construction, and environment manipulation can be learned through helpful tool tips, and the included tutorials. Further help can be found on the GmodWiki.

Playability: The game is much more stable then its predecessors. However, since this game has no restrictions on what you can do, it is possible to break the game by flooding it with stuff. A good way to screw up your game and lose all your work is to spawn tons of explosive barrels and crates and NPCs, then set them on fire. Gmod can be a learning experience on the limits of your computer's hardware and connection.

Bells and Whistles: There are literally hundreds of different up ways you can modify and manipulate props in the game. The depth to which you do so is up to the user, there are simple tools to create basic things, and more advanced onces to do more complicated things. Whatever this game doesn't have can easily modified in.

Replay Value: As with all sandbox games, no two games are alike. It has theoretically infinite replay value.

Other notes: New maps for this game can be made in hammer. New weapons, tools, GUIs, and other scripted content can easily be implemented through LUA code. There is tons of custom content available which greatly extends its game-play.

My suggestion, if you have $10 and don't have anything else to do, go buy Garry's Mod. The game is a mod and requires a Source engine game, such as Counter-Strike:Source or Half-Life 2. A package is available on Steam, containing both Counter-Strike:Source and Garry's Mod 10, for $25. Some may find the sandbox game-play to loose, so you may wish to try the free version, Garry's Mod 9, first.

This game is awesome. Looks great, loads of fun and just perfect in every way. You can do almost everything! And if you go to the right server when you play online it's even a great online game.
So go ahead and buy it. If you just want to get some kind of Demo go to the website and download the old free version 9. Garry's Mod has changed alot since then so it's a better idea to just buy it. It only costs US$ 9.95 if you already own HL2 or CSS or DoDS.

I play many games that the PC has to offer, but i would have to say that this game is the best, hands down. The ability to do almost anything you want makes a very good game. Although this game is a bit confusing when you start out, you quickly catch on. When i first played this game (version 1, believe it or not), i was clueless. I had a little bit of fun shooting an endless stream of lamps and babies. As new versions were released, the game became more interesting. Version 9.0.4 really hit it off for me. In this version, you could do about anything. The menu had more props and options than ever. Even though the game was buggy because it didn't have the whole source engine, a player could sit for hours. When news of Gmod10 came along, Garry had stirred up the already-massive FacePunch Studios forum. Then, when the game was released in November, it immediately hit the Steam's best sellers list. Garry's Mod (gmod10) has way more to offer than it's predecessors. From hover balls to winches, this game will keep you glued to your seat. Not only do you get the same tools from the previous, but you even get more props, and the ability to customize your own menus! Also, if you need a specific prop that you can't find on the menus, just use the handy search bar. Aside from the construction, Garry's Mod also offers visual enhancements such as DOF (depth of field) and morphing. If you are into modding or developing, Garry's Mod uses Lua 5.1, which communicates to the Source Engine better than the older Lua versions used. If you really want a game that will take up every ounce of your spare time, get Garry's Mod. 5/5.

If you like messing around under the hood, this is the perfect game for you. It's the epitome of sandbox gameplay.

As an illustration of the variety in the game, in my first week of playing, these are just a few of the things I came across:
- a huge walking robot, several stories high, with manned cannons
- someone pretending to be a bum on a roleplay server and building a hobo shack
- roleplaying metrocops lighting said bum on fire
- a player building a BBQ shack, complete with a fluorescent sign, and serving meat to other players in the server
- an entirely new gameplay mode where you play zombies vs humans in a struggle to survive to the end of the round

All of these things can be created by you, as well. That's the wonder of it all.

For more traditional modders, Garry's Mod is also a pretty big treat. It includes a client and server side implementation of Lua scripting. This makes Garry's Mod the easiest platform to develop on since Quake 1, as the endless flood of user made Lua scripts should show.

Last, but not least, Garry's Mod has a thriving and active community. There are always active multiplayer servers to join. If you're confused and need some help, you can post on the Garry's Mod forums and someone will usually help you pretty quickly.

Garry's Mod is the holy grail for tinkerers. Give it a try, and you'll probably find yourself addicted. I know I've been losing sleep over it.

Theres basically no bounds to what you can do and make. Having fun with the physics and other things that go along with the Source engine. A true sandbox modification.

I have played this game ever since version 8 was released, I've loved it and I have Gmod 10, The game is easey to use with pop up hints to help you. You can play it for hours and not get bored of it.
