nice puzzle solving, good weapons, favorite crowbar, very interesting game environment, and music, start with a slow pace and pick up, well the ending was kind of not the way I thought it would be, kind of doom 2 like, but its nice engaging game

Simply the best game ever. Shared first place with Grim Fandango and StarCraft. ;)

Too bad I never finished it (but I'm still planning to ^_^ ), due to some bug with that giant flying fetus-like boss.

What a game, a great single player mode with a consistently great multiplayer and co-op mode. If you like FPS then definately give this game a try.

"completely linear, with a weak storyline and virtually no character development"

The storyline is exceptionally good for this era and type of game (especially versus Quake and Doom) and - character development? Why would you need that? The lead is you (so no CD is really needed) and the only other significant figure in the game is the G-Man. And he has quite obvious CD...

Fantastic game that definitely introduced the idea that an FPS *can
  • develop an interesting storyline and engaging atmosphere, as well.

Mince: Half-Life's storyline is FAR from weak.

But yeah, This was also the first game I ever played on a PC that is. I loved every second of it. Couldn't get past the part where the bullsquid destroys the platform, I always tried to jump across, ignoring the pipes. ^_^

This was the first FPS I ever bought, and I was totally immersed in it. I was pretty young, and not much of a gamer, so it scared the crap out of me back then...

This is one of those games you just DON'T uninstall. Even after a format, just in case you ever feel like crowbaring your heart out on a lonely, nerdy, saturday night at home.

Although completely linear, with a weak storyline and virtually no character development, Half-life swept the charts because of it's engaging situations, simple yet brilliant puzzles and a strong modding community, with mods and maps being created since 1998 and continuing with the successor Half-Life 2. It's the same method Neverwinter Nights, Tribes and Unreal used to stay alive years after release, and as shown it works and works well ;)
