Guardians of Kelthas
In a world torn by civil war, mercenary organizations struggle to protect the people from an onslaught of monsters. As the new director of one such Hero Company, your mission is to take up this fight and become one of the foremost Guardians of Kelthas.
Prepare for battle in a powerful but easy-to-use deck construction system. Take along heroes, managers, monsters, equipment, and rituals from previous competitions, or purchase new cards by spending the Guild Credits your company has earned. Balance your deck by reviewing the statistics or trying it out in a practice game.
Explore the Nine Kingdoms of Kelthas, each of which presents new opportunities for a strong and well-balanced company. But consider the terrain and location carefully! A deck that works well in one province may not perform as well in another.
Compete with up to five computer or human opponents in single-player, hotseat, or online play. Choose from a variety of gameplay modes, including story-based Campaigns, corporate alliances, and free-for-all battles. As your cards grow in experience, their abilities evolve, resulting in more effective and powerful teams over time.
Guardians of Kelthas explores the possibilities available to an all-digital fantasy collectible card game. It features:
An innovative, learning-based AI that studies and adapts to your strategies over time.
Interactive audio that constantly changes to reflect the state of the game.
A unique levelling system in which cards grow in power as they are used.
A variety of challenging gameplay modes, including a story-based Campaign game.
One of the largest and most diverse student game development teams ever assembled, with over 50 contributors from around the world.
Guardians of Kelthas has been submitted to a number of national and international game competitions, and will presented at a variety of shows and conferences around the country throughout 2006. For more details, please see our list of Competitions and Awards.

How is Guardians of Kelthas different from Magic Online?
Magic: the Gathering, and its online counterpart, Magic Online, is by far the most popular fantasy collectible card game, so it’s only natural to compare Guardians to it. The major difference between them is that Magic Online is essentially a transcription of the offline game; its goal is to be faithful to the physical card game with innovations in interface rather than gameplay. Our design team has a great deal of respect for this; the interface for Magic Online, though complex, generally does a good job of providing players with most of the options they would have in an analog game.
Guardians of Kelthas has no offline game to adhere to, giving us the flexibility to make innovative use of its digital nature. This allows us to try a variety of cards and rules which would be difficult or impossible for a physical card game, for example, cards with percentile or random effects, or cards that level up as you play with them. We are also able to attempt new kinds of story, technical, and artistic design that would have no analogues in offline play.
