Magic the Gathering: Battlegrounds
Converting Magic: the Gathering into a fun action game seemed pretty much impossible until this game pulled it off.
It's basically an RTS stripped down to its core fun. Resource collection is simply stepping on orbs and adding a unit to your army is a button press away. There's no zooming or panning to worry about since the whole battlefield is always visible.
Its full of strategies both during and before play. Before play you customize a deck of spells: creature summons, sorceries, and enchantments. Decks can be one or two color. Two color decks have more combo potential, but ramp up much more slowly. Players familiar with the card game will find lots of old favorites like Giant Spiders to block flying attackers and Llanowar Elves to boost mana production.
During battles players need to summon at good positions (towards the opponent for attackers), counter opponent actions, block attacks with careful timing, and even swat down enemy creatures with melee attacks.
The single-player is a long series of battles that train the player in the game's vast detail, one color at a time.
Multiplayer on Xbox Live, Windows, or local (single-screen).
