Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is a video game developed by Midway Games for the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Windows PC platforms. Originally titled ESPionage, the game was released in North America on June 14, 2004; the European release followed on October 1, 2004. A traditional shooter in many respects, Psi-Ops banks on its ragdoll physics (by way of Havok 2.0) and variety of psychic powers to differentiate itself.

In the game, the player is Nick Scryer, a "PSI-Operative" whose mind has been wiped so he can infiltrate a terrorist organization. However, he is captured and must fight his way out with the help of Sara, a double agent. As he progresses, he regains his PSI powers.

The Game Received positive reviews from several notable sources.

Features

  • Telekinesis, the ability to move and lift objects or people with one's mind. The first power gained, Telekinesis allows the player to lift enemies and objects, which can be moved or thrown to different locations. By standing on top of a solid object and then using Telekinesis on it the player can "ride" the object across a room or open area.
  • Remote Viewing, the ability to induce an out-of-body experience, enabling the player to scout ahead of himself and go through doors to view enemies. Using Remote Viewing leaves the player in a state of vulnerability. If the player's body is attacked while using this power viewing will be slightly disrupted, while an explosion or large attack may negate viewing completely.
  • Mind Control, the ability to hijack another persons body to use for yourself. This power can be used to turn enemies against each other. As soon as you leave the enemy's body, however, all opponents are once again allied.
  • Mind Drain, the ability to absorb the psi energy within a living or dead person's brain. This power can be used to drain the power from living or dead bodies, but only if their head is still intact.
  • Pyrokinesis, the ability to excite the atoms within an object or human, creating instant fire. In this game, the player throws a wall of fire from his hand, which can be used to ignite ropes or other objects, causing explosions. Pyrokinesis is also useful as a distraction or means of getting an enemy to move without the use of Telekinesis (in most circumstances an enemy will roll out of the way of an attack, though movements can easily be predicted)
  • Aura Viewing, the ability to view creatures from another realm that inhabit Earth. Also used to view mines, the mood of an enemy, or evidence that has been ebbed out. This is useful in detecting secret passages, hidden items, and the alert levels of enemies. This power is similar to the Aura Viewing power in Bloodrayne 2.
  • Illusion casting, the power to create false images or memories. This is not a playable power, but is held by the character Wei Lu of The Movement. This power is otherwise known as glamour.
  • Precognition, the power to predict the future. Nick is struck by erratic glimpses of the future throughout the game.
