Quake 2

Quake II, released on December 6, 1997, is a first person shooter computer game developed by id Software and distributed by Activision. It is not a sequel to Quake; it merely uses the name of the former game for commercial purposes. The soundtrack was provided by Sonic Mayhem, with some additional tracks by Bill Brown. The main theme was by Rob Zombie.

Quake 2 is commonly known as the definitive online deathmatch experience, having players move at incredible speeds firing devastating weapons.

Yes Q2 had great atmosphere and action for its time.

But the best thing I liked about Q2 was the "weapons of destruction" mod...ah that was FUN !!! pure multiplayer goodness. I have truly never found a multiplayer experience I though was as good as WOD.

The "jailbreak" mod was great fun too.

Edit: rock on Joe! Another WOD fan! :)

Single player was so/so but multi player revolutionized deathmatch.
