Colony Wars III: Red Sun
Thought by many at the time to be the Jewel in the Colony Wars trilogy. The game featured a revived in-game engine which managed to push the PS1 to the limit. It also introduced a multi-tiered mission structure and used some of the highest quality FMV of its time.
"..The war between the League of Free Worlds and the Earth Empire has raged for 200 years. As the war enters its final stages, something sinister is behind the scenes pulling the strings. Everything seems to revolve around a new space cruiser called the Red Sun. Is the Red Sun a weapon, a symbol of peace, or something else? You assume the role of Valdamar, a miner- turned-mercenary, as he flies from system to system looking for work. As Valdamar flies over 50 missions, he will work for both the Empire and the League. After completing a mission, the pay can be used to buy new ships and weapons or customize a ship Valdamar already owns. Can Valdamar find out what is manipulating the war? .."
Ok, so it's not everyone's cup of tea - but if it is your genre of choice, and you fancy a retro outing on that old PS1 - check it out. You wont find a better example easily. Release Date: 2nd June, 2000
