The web backend of roblox is very impressive but the in-game experience is complete shit. It boggles my mind how bad it is. Moving around is completely broken - it's jerky, there's no interpolation, you penetrate walls when you run into them, you penetrate the floor when you jump, there is no client side prediction of collision. Shooting is a complete joke - I have literally never seen a shooting mechanic that is worse. The camera goes through walls, gets stuck, jerks around. You can die mysteriously when walking down stairs or jumping into the ceiling. Every build is floating so you often are flung off of the world and fall forever. The character animation and gui look like what you would make in 5 minutes to debug something. With 1000 blocks loaded, i get ~50 fps on my super computer - in Blockland I get like 950+. The whole thing is like a student project that has gone out of control. <br/>&amp ;lt;br/>Roblox only thrives because it aggressively markets to children who have never played a real game before and thus do not realize how broken everything is. Some of those children happen to be the rare combination of mentally ill and rich, so they pay the $300. Anyone who has played Quake, Tribes, Battlefield, TF2, HL2, or any real game on the PC simply cannot tolerate how bad Roblox is.

Roblox lets the kids advertise the site(such as giving links like in the comment section - in which HTML does not work anyway), and once again, these kids don't know what a real game is.

Roblox is exactly what you'd expect any good brick building game to be. It allows you to create whole worlds of bricks and play in them with your friends, and the best thing, ITS FREE! I found Roblox while searching for rpg games (which I LOVE) and I have been addicted to it ever since. Here are some pros and cons(in order of importance):

Pros
Its FREE
It uses LUA scripting language allowing you to build almost anything you can dream of.
Only limits are your own imagination and lag
User-friendly community
Constantly updating meaning new ways to have fun at every corner

Cons
No light-Sources
Lots of noobs


I would suggest Roblox to anybody on earth.

Before i started playing this game, i was looking for city building games and civilization games.

And then i saw an add that said "Make your own castle!" i was thinking "Oh my gosh! I have to see this! I hope its good!" And when i saw that it was like a virtual lego building world, i was then like "OH MY GOSH! Hey grant! come look at this!" Grant, being my brother. We were so exited to see it!

When we made our avatars, we laughed at the silly hats they put out. We made our own place, and though it was the coolest thing we've ever seen!

When i started getting into the LUA side of it, i though like it was the game from heaven. Right now i am creating a Civilization game, where people will create a city and fight to gain land and such!

I love this game, and i hope others will play it too!

P.S. The graphics could improve, but does graphics make a game bad? I dont think it matters at all!

Okay, first, I want to say flat out, that Roblox is in Beta. Its still not really a full game. so bugs, and bad graphics, are iminent.

Gameplay is great. However, it is hard to find. The popular places found on the Games list cant show what Roblox can really do. You have to dig deep into Roblox.

Many new users dont know how to play the game because they dont know how to use items. But, Roblox cant tell you how to use the items. Everything is player-made. If a player wants a plane to start by typing in "start", theres nothing to stop him from doing it. But, most things are the same, like how to start planes/ cars.

Replay Value is fun, because if you get bored of fighting zombies, you can go fly planes, explore islands and castles, and more.

The graphics are okay for a game in Beta. It really needs some work though.

Builders Club Does not hinder normal gameplay. It just gives you more spots to save your stuff you make. Buy it once you get used to the game, and have judged it for yourself.

I stumbled upon this game in an Advertisement. It looked stupid and childish at first, but when I saw the stuff people made (including some very awesome RPGs like Knights of Robloxia) I just had to try.
Pretty soon, I had made the place of my dreams, Zeypher Islands RPG, a casual MMORPG-style game similar to Maple, but way better.
And this was free, which (yes, here it comes..) Blockland Can't say.
Play it! You will be glad You did!

The game itself is ok, but I absolutely hate the fact that you have to buy items with some fake points online. What also bugs me is the fact that you have to wait 5 minutes to put a single thing on.

This game's download is just another internet explorer. Its pointless.

The game play looks promising, but what are you supposed to be? A mentally special stack of blocks?

In-game, I get oodles of lag. I mean tons. My computer is in perfect condition to run this game.

The community consists of 4-9 year olds. They seem to explode at every little thing. I tried out a weapon on a block, and the host screamed "I'm reporting you!!" only with unneeded bad grammar. The Mods can be quite ridiculous for the fact that, if you speak one word about what seems to be a rival, Blockland, you are instantly banned.

The physics were amazingly good for how bad it looked. Some servers are no fun at all, considering since some hosts won't let you do anything. The mods and items are confusing, and how to get a mod to work in it, is just a nightmare. I don't see how anyone could do it. Compared to its rival, Blockland, it's a mess. It's ok for the most part, but the community, game-play, and graphics, completely annoy the hell out of me.

People like "Gruntshooter" are just trying to take the fame from its competitor. When he said "Stop looking for another online game because this one is GREAT!" he better not have meant all online games, because millions of games could kick this game's ass.

The controls are a little weird, and the view and walking style makes me get a migraine.

Also, the fact that they have to put some scam to pay $5 a month for a online thing to be able to sell shirts, is worthless. Oh yeah, your 5 year old may fall for it and buy it, but he's just wasting money. Just because the game is free overall, it means its usually worse.

Overall, I'd rather play a falling sand flash game.

Even though it features Lua, one of my favorite coding languages, it just is not worth playing. It is web-browser based, and runs very slow. The creators didn't spend much time working on the actual design of the game. However, I gave the graphics a 3/5 because it does have very nice physics. However, since I play a game called Blockland, we have also gotten a lot of spam on our forums, saying this is better, and they do not have any good reasons. Do not get this game.

I also have to STRONGLY agree with Sampapa about this. What WERE the devs thinking?

I had to review this again because of those Blockland jerks saying this game is crap when it's better than Blockland. They are just Jealous that Roblox has a better community, Better gameplay, A physics engine, More features, And that the creator is making more money than the creator of Blockland.

This game is great. The only bad part is that it's in Beta. It was way more glitchy in the Alpha stage back in 2005, though.

This game has no limits except your imagination and one's scripting skills. The possibilities are endless when a good .Lua scripter hits the scene. So far I have seen a ton of different games, Such as :RPGs, FPSs, Tycoons, And building places.

I swear, this is the best online game I've ever played. Blockland is horrible compared to this game. With this game you can Make your own Torso decals that are visible to everyone unlike in Blockland where the person needs to Download it to see it.

This game offers an optional $5 a month add on subscription which lets you: Sell the Torso Decals you make for Robux or Tickets and you receive the Profit, Get a daily amount of 15 Robux a day, And lets you have 10 Places at the same time.

I suggest you either quit Blockland if you play and switch over to Roblox, Or stop thinking about buying Blockland for $20 and play this better game for free.

This game is better as an engine and building tool, than an actual toy in its base state. Fortunately, it is open to expansions via code. It has interesting game-modes, you can fly (though it's confusing for some, namely me), you can run a bread tycoon, you can build, you can play paintball or a normal deathmatch, you can make your own shirts and hats.

awesome graphics! and the blocks are so animated! easy to build and upload meshes! played this a few times on my acount (naranjo) and it is awesome! If i can only upload hats =/ but you have to be an admin to! plz join today! its pretty fun once you step your foot in the game, you will be amazed at the amazing graphics and simulation!

Roblox is an awesome game, not only for kids but older kids too. Roblox combines the fun of legos and programing in one amazing game. I highly recommend trying this game out, you will love building and battling in a new and excited vitural world of Legos! On top of all that you can make friends, post forums about all different kinds of things, and visit other players lego room creations! After you get into the game you can try getting all of the badges!, but you will need to work hard making your place famous and work hard bloxxing (killing) other players! All and all this game is one of my top favorites and i hope you can play it, Have Fun!

ROBLOX for me is the best thing ever to have come out of free, online, simulation games.

The gameplay deserves a 4 star. The editor gives you the power to build amazing maps, brick by brick. It also allows you to implement LUA at the same time. I find that pretty amazing how they could possibly put that much into it.

I think graphics also deserve a 4. Each week I've seen their graphics improving, from improved anti-aliasing, to shadows.

I'm not quite sure what replay value means. I'm guessing that it means if you want to play it again. I think that this is a game that never gets boring. There's so many possibilities.

Now fun factor gets a 5. I find simulation games very fun, especially when you get to blow up towers with rocket launchers.


Now you guys have to remember that ROBLOX is still growing. They update it pretty much every 2 weeks, each time making it better and better. Yes, lag can also be a problem, but that relies on other factors, as well. I want to also remind you that there are some Button-happy-8-year-olds playing, so the age kind of explains it.


And finally, to go with the learning curve, I said it takes awhile. First of all, it took me about an hour to get the basics of the editor. Also, you either have to know some LUA or at least want know a little about scripting in general to be able to make custom scripts. That's the only reason it takes awhile to learn.

Im gonna use this as an excuse to rag on the developers of this game. UMMMM HELLO?

What are these developers possibly thinking? A little to much pride. First off, I wanna rag how they don't even follow their own rules. First, I accidentally swore when playing this game, which is against the rules, but still. Some 8 year old reported me for kicking their butts in a dog fight. Now, normally I wouldn't have a problem, but I got banned. According to the Devs, this was my first offense, thus I should be warned, not banned. Hmm, I guess its coz I played Blockland.

This leads to my second complaint, the devs are walking around ragging on Blockland because Roblox uses Lua. So, why dont you put it to use and make a swear blocker? Lua is nice, but its almost as if the devs dont know how to use it. There are so many bugs its not even funny.

Hmm, I guess I should move to game play..

Roblox is a fun game to play...most of the time. It currently is in Alpha, and has way to many bugs. Its almost as if they just threw code together, published it and said "Hey, lets make it Lua so we can have to community make what we are to lazy to fix lolol"

The Gameplay is nice, its really easy to pick up and play.The building can not be the same. The studio makes things easier to build with, but if your trying to build in peoples servers, prepare for frustration. Your gonna end up like me and yelling at the computer "NO! I DONT WANT THE BLOCK THERE! I FREAKING WANT IT BETWEEN THOSE TWO BRICKS. AHHH" Then again, its alpha, maybe they will incoperate more of Blockalnd building. Because this style...well sucks.

I hate to move in Roblox, seriously. Heres how my normal moves work in it. I try to turn left on a narrow platform using A. But it moves me forward, then left, making me fall off the platform. ATTENTION ROBLOX DEVS: WHEN I WANT TO MOVE LEFT, I WANT TO MOVE LEFT, NOT FORWARD THEN LEFT.

As for the graphics, its alright, I kinda like it The worlds are nice, but then again, whats to be said. Theres no landscape maps, so it gets boring fast. Thank god for that Paintball and Aircraft carrier server.

I seriously suggest you dont try this game, unless your bored and have nothing to do. Hey! You might find me playing it when im bored. Add me: Sampapa. We can be bored together!

As ia said, you need 1 Megabit per second or more to run all servers without lag

The .Lua Scripts is great, since this make sure you can do other stuff then just build

The graphics is not that great, yet the go wild on my vista Laptop with a Mobility readion X1300 128 mb Card - this Pc can Run the Source Engine and WoW without problems

It's easy to learn but unless you find . lua servers - it's gonna get repetevite After one or two games

This game has many features a free online game wouldn't have, it has an incredible physics engine, you get free web space for your server, and best of all your server is up 24/7 so you don't need to host a dedicated server, there's no porn in this game because it has such a great administration and moderation team. this game is better then Blockland, i'd pay $100 for this game if i had to.

Its mainly a rip-off of Lego. Its the perfect game if you want to build. You can make buildings, obstacle courses, planes, cars, games, anything. Make tools to use like rocket launchers, super jumps, slingshots and bombs. Its highly interactive and entirely player made. If you know actionscript then you'll be better at making things in game. You'll love it if you play it. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED.

After playing this game for a bit, I realized that this game is extreamly annoying. It does have great replay value, but the graphics are lacking considerably. not only that, it's very confusing for beginners, and has a gigantic learning curve. the only good part about this game is it's physics, which are also lacking, and it's scripting, Lua, which is nice. The server-picking and such are confusing and stupid. I would greatly recommend player a more advanced game, like Blockland, as it has a much lower learning curve. Lastly, there are \\\"kill\\\" bricks, and no trust system (meaning anyone can destroy your build as they please). It's a nice game, it just feels like the developers were working on more obvious things, instead of working on the things that really matter. The update system is also horrible, requiring you to restart your computer.

This game has legos, lots and lots of legos! You build with them, and you destroy with them! This game has tons of replay value, and it's online too! Another great thing, is the graphics, not incredible, but they're amazing considering this game is only 4MBs! I would recommend this game highly to anyone in the mood for a good time!
