Saturn Bomberman

Saturn Bomberman is a game Hudson imho are yet to equal. It features a "battle", "story" and "master" modes.

Stand out features of the Saturn version include:

Dinosaurs: Eggs you collect which hatch into 5 varieties / 3 strengths

Battle Mode: 2-7-10 Player mayhem

Story Mode: 1-2 Player - mission / boss based.

Wide Stage: 8+ Players the game goes high res and the arena doubles in size!

All this with great looking levels, nice gameplay mechanics, good music, tight controls (unlike every 3d iteration!)

They should leave the franchise alone and port this to XBLA. This version also had net support in non-euro territories or online play.

100% Blast with your mates around, and they can ALL play at once!

Oh and they made an awesome bomberman multi-tap too!

Bottom Line: You won't find a 2D multiplayer game that can touch this. Forget 3D, go back to your roots!
One of my favorite Saturn games, which seemed a perfect fit for Sega's 2D powerhouse.

The story mode and master mode are fun, and well implimented - with the former having some lovely little touches and cut scenes. The music is as colourful and varied as the settings are in this mode.

OK, so heres the big selling point; This is probably the only home video game with anywhere where 10 human players could sit together and game at once.

I would say it is equally well suited to hardcore and casual gamers - but a mix of these can lead to a really interesting "show down" as the blocks begin to encroach the arena. It's battle mode has more features and configuarable options than you could ever want.

I would have liked to see a litle variation in the battle mode music however, as it is just the one main evolving track - but this has not stopped us playing it for hours and hours. It becomes the soundtrack to your experience and it's not unpleasant by any means.

With Bomberman you will find that your groups of friends and acquantances will change before the game's longevity begins to wain!

The more people you have the more fun you'll have.

Highlights include; dinosoar abilities, innovatave level elements, lots of different levels, good story mode with end of area bosses, online play in US/Japan, secret characters, wide screen battle arena and much more.

Despite all of this, it doesn't try to deliver too much and where it sets out to score - it really succeeds.
Learning Curve: Instant!
