Sauerbraten
Sauerbraten (a.k.a. Cube 2) is a free multiplayer/singleplayer first person shooter, built as a major redesign of the Cube FPS.
Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features & eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine.
The engine supporting the game is entirely original in code & design, and its code is Open Source (ZLIB license, read the docs for more on how you can use the engine).

 The ability to edit world geometry online and collaboratively is original, and something that I could appreciate in the short time I played this game. Even with my limited construction ability, building tiny forts and tunnels out of boxes colored like grass and brick, and constructing random cubes of water, I enjoyed myself. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something interesting and different to play.

 Amazing game and engine, I love the real-time feedback you get from being able to create a level and jump right into it. Editing is so easy too

 I think its innovative engine is what makes it so great. Being able to edit and manipulate maps in real-time, then switch over to play in the map with a single press of a button is just great, and lets people not so familiar with mapping and whatnot express their creativity.

 This game is ever as good as cube and more. Just the fact that you can map with others online makes this engine truly versatile. The graphics are great, and it runs well on mid-grade computers.

 This game is amazing, both in thoery and practice. I can't even count the amount of hours that i and my friends have spent in it just making giant castles and esoteric architecture. Genius, plain and simple.
