Savage had a unique view on the FPS genre because it mixed in RTS elements. In a game there were two teams, each team had a commander. The commander was given a RTS camera view and could order his troops to build, mine, or attack. Round times could last anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours, making it somewhat of a commitment.
The end goal of each team is to destroy the other team's stronghold, or their main spawnpoint. Each team had a variety of weapons, which they'd be allowed to use if their research skill was high enough. Because some weapons cost thousands of gold, players could request it from their commander.
