Soulhunter

Soulhunter is an adventure game in 3d and it is being developed in DarkBasic Classic. The main character of the game is "Soulhunter" a lonely and tortured creature, who has lost his soul after years of slavery, despair and inprisonment. One day something miraculous happens and the creature begins his journey into the heart of the dark forest where a mysterious wish-granting spirit dwells, the only one who could possibly recover the creature's soul.

In his escape from the one that held him inprisoned the little creature managed to steal a magic sword that allows him to absorb souls from monsters, and use these souls to temporary stay alive.

This is one of those "platform-jumping/hack- and slash" games. The people that have tested it have said that it is like a mix of zelda, rayman and a nightmare before christmas. The game is still under development, I will hopefully finish it this(or next) year.
Recently Daz offered me to make music for this game and the samples he have made so far are sounding very good.

Bottom Line: Soulhunter is a bit like Zelda: the Wind Waker lite.
As far as I'm aware, Soulhunter is the effort of a single man. For a single man, the resulting game is quite impressive, because Soulhunter delivers everything you'd expect from it - maybe excluding a high-profile storyline.

Taking into account that the version I played was not completely finished, Soulhunter is a simple game. That doesn't mean it's easy, it means it's easy to get into. Within seconds, any gamer will have grasped the controls, camera controls and attacks available, and thus, you'll be slashing your way through the cartoony enemies in no time.

Think Zelda, the Wind Waker, probably. This game offers a bit of that, to a certain extent. Fighting feels like that game, and so does running around. There are no wide, open fields, but instead claustrophobic, endangering forests. There is no magical artefact, just a deformed, sad main character hunting for his soul. There are no dozens of items, although there are a few to collect through the course of the game.

But then, what is it that makes this game worth your while? Well, it could be the boss battles, that are convincing, dynamic and dangerous. It could be the main character, the ultimate anti-hero. It could be the visual style, dark and yet cartoonish. Or maybe just the accessible gameplay.

Or maybe, it's just the mix of all the above.
