System Shock 2
A dark and moody cyberpunk RPG that brings back to life SHODAN one of the best realized arch-nemesis in computer gaming.
This time around it is a ship - not a station that has been taken over.
Story telling elements such as voice mail as 'ghost' residue are used to great effect. You can see similar mechanisms being used in F.E.A.R and others.
Uses a modified Thief engine so there is a significant focus on 'sneak'- although the game can be player through in multiple ways.

Bottom Line: Play it! I consistently almost defecated in miene trousers when playing this. I was consistently out of ammo and the fear of new gruseome enemies and those damned monkeys place this game as one of the best horror shooters of all time. I have yet to take on Doom 3, but it will be judged against this.
