Tetrageddon

Play Now
Although the controls take on the basic "pentomino" controls (Up, Down, Left, Right, Space for "drop", and Q to submit your high-score), the game-play takes a very unusual spin that tickles the "nonsense" nerve. You are presented with a quiet city scene where you control heaps of rubble dropped from the sky by a tiny alien (Minibyte), who decided to "pick on the big people" by planting his "Portable Entertainment System" (a giant crane) over Earth. The goal of the game comes in three tiers: to score by squishing people, play pentomino, and challenge your reflexes as blocks fall at random speeds. The traditional set of blocks are mixed with "surprise blocks" which you have to quickly find a place for in the grid. Even the individual block tiles are purposefully vague and hard to distinguish to add to the chaos. The game is very challenging to ones reflexes. The goal is to keep your grid under control as long as possible so that you can continue scoring on pedestrians. Only those with quick fingers can survive.

Bottom Line: If you are looking for fresh coffe-break games chances are that you will like this mayhem of a game.
*Note: If you want to see the important details scroll down the whole thing... sorry for the rant.

Lets say that some day at some time you are bored, or looking for something to fill your meaningless and bored life (in the case you have one ) Whathever are the reasons the answer is clear, what could be more fulfilling than spend your time in the role of a small green thing who hates everithing except for gore. Congratulations you have found Tetraggedon.

To help you getting in my POV you should know that the makers of the game intended it in the way as it is, they made it for fun, and isnt directed to a wide public. But lets stop rambling and lets talk about this jewel.

When you run the game you hear some moaning and a small green thing saying something in an awful small font, ooh a field a butterfly and strange music... ok.. . If I tell you the truth I just passed the intro, I was looking for some fast action and a flying butterfly isnt precisely my idea of a bloodbath. I didnt watched it entirely until I started writting this review, but I can asure that it explains quite a lot (at the end) in a fast and efficient manner.

After the introduction the menu screen is shown, the standard gore everyone could expect and a nice Tetris theme remix, believe me I have listened a lot of Tetris remixes and you cant get one much better than this, also the retro touch adds extra value to the picture.
In my first play I just hit "Splay" you know, its the play-like-a-junkie urge that every hardcore gamer gets by the years. I must say that every aspect of the game its carefully executed, I know its may be hard to understand for some but it represents the way of looking the world of the developers, you can notice this by the sheer amount of references to things that they only understand . Its like watching a picture or a sculpture, you can say "Its cool" or "What a waste" but the artist is the only who can fully understand it.

Ehmm, lets get back to the review.

Graphics
The Nintendo styled athmosphere its well done, in particular by the annoying music and low quality sounds (even for a flash game). The simple graphics goes well with the audio aspect, except for the trash pictures, they look out of place because of the size reduction.
Overall they are with the flavor of a past age.

Gameplay
What I could say. Its like Tetris but without restrictions (play as long as you want) and with those surprise blocks wich are a pain in..
Overall its what I spected.

Replay Value
None. As the original Tetris. I just put two stars in case you are a crazy masochist who likes to beat himself in Tetris for hours. Also for the high scores table.

Fun Factor
I would have given here the half of the points, but guess what, Minibyte saved the day. I love that guy, congratulations to the voice actor/program or wathever, it fits perfectly the character. Heck I even like when those bizarre surprises fall thanks to Minibyte. He is 75% of the fun factor the rest is the blood the laughs and the music, and maybe a little % for Tetris fans.

Well, last words now:
-Good job AlienMelon, nice story, sound and graphics and overall, for the fun because in the end is what games are for.
