The Pirate Tales
Follow the adventures of Captain Caninbahl, Barley, Deckhand Dewey, Ruby Barnacle, and Planky the Parrot as they plunder their way through caves, underwater shipwrecks, and dangerous port towns. The Pirate Tales is a match-3 puzzle game spanning 100 chapter-style levels. Perform typical pirating duties, plunder treasure, and fight opponents in your quest to rescue Dewey's girlfriend, Ruby Barnacle.

Shore leave is supposed to be a happy time for a pirate, filled with carousing, picking fights, and tax-free plundering.

First thing that popped in my head was- so its parrot`s nest, full of eightballs, sounds cool and wacky. Only later did i find out that "pieces of eight" are Spanish eight reales coin which later became the USA dollar. And here I was, thinking that was some kind of billiard-related pun :) | |
| Story, story related design | Harder than Planned | Doing something as a side project while working a full time job can be pretty taxing. Having written for a few other games, I thought writing a puzzle game would be easy. Matching up gameplay with story, while keeping the story concise, proved to be difficult however. A solid story is a great asset to a game, but gameplay comes first. If the story gets in the way of gameplay, get rid of it. That may sound strange coming from an English major, but in gaming it's true. Making sure I followed this little maxim was my primary goal. | |
