Great game, with large maps, and plenty of community. AI makes it possible to play with yourself or over a LAN, even without a CD key.

This is still one of the greatest games of all time.
If only Sierra could've backed off and let Dynamix do their thing, then this amazing franchise might have had a REAL 3rd installment. There is little doubt in my mind that this could have been the greatest game of all time.

The incredible soundtrack composed by Timothy Stephen Clark is just one of the many truly epic parts of this game. To this day, when that "lush" music starts my mind instantly slips back to the first time I ever played.

If you have never played this game, DO SO! The community for the most part is tighter and friendlier than that of any other FPS you'll come across. The age range is astounding.

We need more FPS+Z games like Tribes.

tribes 2 was great, the vinilla game was awesome, there were so many things to do! an even more so, the game was so easy to mod, the mods came out like crazy. Ahh, i have so many memories of the construction mod, and others.

And the fact the engine was turned into torque is just awesome too, i hope at some point garage games buys the rights to tribes 2 and puts out more CD keys, i lost mine sadly and can no longer play multi player.

Agreed with most everyone here. Tribes 2 was, unfortunately, the peak of the series and possibly the last game that ran well on my PC. ;)

The game is actualy free but the CD-keys thet the multiplayer still requieres basicly ran out or were never supplied enough.
However the game is free to download from multiple locations on the net and you can either play against bots or play in a LAN game.
There is also a few training single player missions but the fun from them will be rather short although you can get fan made singleplayer missions from the internet.
Not to mention the huge ammount of mods you can get to the game. One for singleplayer fun is the construcion mod indeed. There is not much you can't make in the mod.

Tribes 2 is unrivalled;

No other other game gives you 3 axis of gameplay the way this game does. Whether you like to Snipe, Spy, Cap Flags, Strategically Deploy Defences, Dogfight, Bombardier, Pilot, Monitor Enemy movement, blow up enemy equipment, Run and Gun, drive a Tank, This game has got it all.

Tribes 2 was also ported to Linux by Loki Games. I bought two copies, one for Linux and one for windows so my roommates could play.

Name is wrong. It wasn't "Starsiege: Tribes 2", just "Tribes 2". Only the first one was Starsiege.

This game most definately occupied a few years of my life. Best multiplayer gaming experience I'd ever participated in. Would love to relive those days. <3 Tribes 2. :)

I played Tribes for a long time. I wish I could say the same of Tribes 2. When I got the game, both the lack of enough keys and some crippling bugs meant that I never really picked the game up and played it until nearly two years afterwards, and by then it was nearly dead. However, I know that I would have loved it as it played very close to the original Tribes, and it's graphics, even for today, are top notch.

Yes very fun to play, the community is a tight nit group and spend hours of fun time together. Its a great multiplayer game with many return vets! <3 love ya guys!

I played Tribes and Tribes 2 throughout my teens and twenties. I look back on those days as some of the best days of my life. My closest friends were those on my team. I miss those days. I hope Legends can bring back that time again. This should stop being the decade of Warcraft.

This isn't free...

Tribes 2 is one of my favorite games. (Construction!!) The community was great while it lasted and the gameplay never got old (for me anyway). Many of my creations are inspired by Tribes 2, and it also taught me a lot about programming.

Tribes 2 - Awsome game, better than Tribes and much better than Tribes 3 (Vengence) which was crap - no - worse than crap... But 2 has all the things you would want in a game. Local, online play with bots for practice or real players - you choose. Also many types of game withing the gameplay. seige, capure and hold, Capture the flag, Arena, Rabbit Lak-rabbit and if your that way inclined racing mods are all included. what more can I say - vehicles to drive and fly, many types of weapon and 3 player types... nuff said !!!! AWSOME

They released way too few CD keys when they gave the game away. I think it took less than two days for them to run out of keys. You'd have through that it would have been simpler to disable CD key authentication...

This game kept my attention for a great many years, and is something I would dearly like to see recreated. Vengeance wasn't a bad game by any means, but it felt like they'd tried to streamline and change the multiplayer too much and as a consequence lost the depth that previous games had. Many good memories of this game, and the only reason I ended up knowing much about torque.

Why is this tagged as free?

Both Tribes and Tribes 2 were two of my all-time favorite multiplayer games. I can remember that this was one of the first online games that the majority of my friends all bought and played religiously.

I love the massive playing fields and the far viewable distance. I never had so much fun with a jetpack in my life. :)
