NEWS: UTD's development is currently on hold while I focus on Seeds of Time Online. I do intend to return to development of the game in the future, and I may be interested in adding team members (paid via commission) for artwork and design. Contact me for more information.
This is a two-dimensional tower defense-style strategy game. The game's release build will include several campaigns of varying theme and difficulty, and the full version will also contain an editor which will allow fans of the game to create their own campaigns.
The game will be enjoyable by both casual and core audiences.
The game is in development, and the release date is estimated to be sometime late 2007. The primary platform will be Windows, but Linux and Mac OS ports are very possible (especially if customers express interest) due to the portability of the graphics library used (Allegro).
Features:
several (planned: around five or six) campaigns. A campaign is comparable to a typical tower defense map in Starcraft or Warcraft III, i.e., two or three dozen waves of monsters with increasing difficulty. One full campaign will be made available in the demo. That first campaign will contain a tropical island theme. built upon flexible game mechanics which will allow campaigns to be very unique. This will allow the game's official campaigns to be very distinct from each other, and it will also allow custom campaign creators to be very creative and customize their campaigns in many ways, such as the inclusion of custom GUI images. download & play custom campaigns developed by other users! Custom campaigns created with the editor will be possible to upload and download via the internet on personal websites.
Development Progress (update written 7-7-07):
The general programming has been more-or-less complete for a while, with small additions thrown in here and there. I'm now designing the game's first campaign, Tropical Trouble, where the player will defend a deserted island crew's only stockpile of food from hungry island animals and birds.
Pricing Details:
The game is planned to be released as shareware. That means that a free, downloadable demo will be made available (which will contain one full campaign, out of the 5-6 campaigns the game has to offer), and the full version will cost a small price (currently guessed at $20, but this amount may or may not change).
Linux port
I'm hoping to be able to port the game over to Linux once it's complete. UTD is being written in Allegro, which is easily ported to Linux and Mac OS. So a Mac port would be possible too, but since I don't have a Mac computer to compile the code on, cross-compiling is the only option. Bottom line: I'm trying hard to get a Linux port, and a Mac port may be a possibility, especially if users express interest in the ports.
Add this game to your "Games I can't wait for" gamelist!
