Utopia

Utopia (subtitled: "The creation of a nation") is a strategy game which features both isometric SimCity and RTS gameplay, although in a somewhat primitive form as it's from 1991. At this time the RTS genre was still experimental, and this could be argued to be both the strength and weakness of this game.

There was an expansion called "The new worlds".

More about Utopia

Utopia was released for the Amiga, Atari ST, SNES and MS-DOS back in 1991 (1993 for the SNES). There are a few other games called Utopia aswell.

The goal of Utopia is a bit fuzzy since the scenarios never end. Each map (except for the tutorial map) has an enemy to defeat. This is done by sending units that you construct to the enemy base. Because the enemy bases are never seen on the map, the developers were able to make many species with diverse cultures. This made the game universe a little wider than say the regular 3 species RTS'es of today.

After the enemy has been defeated, the player can concentrate on achieving a high Quality of Life, i.e. building an Utopia.

There was a sequel of sorts, K240.
