My Top 10 Favorite Games Overall
A gamelist by Matthew LangleyThese are my top 10 games of all time accross all platforms that I've played.
Breath Of Fire II
In my opinion Breath of Fire is one of the most underrated game franchises. Especially the original first and second games. Breath of Fire II is easily my favorite game of all time. It was the first RPG I played that had multiple endings (Chrono Trigger being the second).
The game characters, story, interaction, progression, challenge, and overall experience is great. I still love playing through this RPG. It has a great mix of challenge while progressing you through the game at a moderate pace. The multiple endings were great, really added the feel of you making a difference with a choice, even if that was a single choice. My other favorite aspect of this game is the town building. Adds some replay. The next time through you can choose a different construction style as well as different people, with different benefits, to fill up the houses.
Breath Of Fire
A wonderful RPG. Much like Breath of Fire II, though minus some of the elements that made BoFII such an improvement. Still an amazing game, great, story, and challenging gameplay. The story starts you in the middle of action and conflict, unlike most stories that start out fairly slow. The subtle things transitioned between this and later games add a lot of depth to the franchise.
Everquest
Absorbed far too much of my time, and still interests me. The game i can never completely quit. I still love coming back to this classic MMO and see the new content (yes they are still developing on it, up to 13 expansions!) and re-play my old characters. Still such a great and addictive game even after the 7-8 years I've been playing it on and off.
Chrono Trigger
Wow, what a great game. Chock full of action, dynamic story, and elements in the game that effect the overall picture. The sheer magnitude of endings possible in this game was incredible. Still worth playing if you haven't already.
Harvest Moon SNES
One of the most addictive and satisfying games I've ever played, with no violence.
Final Fantasy 3 Snes
Easily my favorite Final Fantasy games. In Japan (and on GBA) this was released as Final Fantasy 6. A great story, great characters, fun gameplay... a classic Final Fantasy that still places above the current 3D versions in my own opinion.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
One of the most character and interaction driven RPGs I've played. The story was cinematic and interesting while maintaining and amazing depth of interaction. The level at which you contributed to the direction and events in the game was astounding. Also your party interaction was genius. It made me feel like my party members were separate and distinct individuals that truly contributed to the adventure. Also the level at which they respond to your choices is great. KotOR 2 really stepped many of these aspects up, though didn't follow through in the story quite as well as the original.
Diablo
Action packed with a fairly good story. This game was amazingly addictive, though what game of Blizzard's isn't. Diablo 2 was/is great as well, though the original is still classic.
Secret Of Mana
A co-op RPG... genius. It still amazes me how few co-op (if any others?) RPGs are out there. I used to love playing Secret of Mana co-op with friends. The gameplay, story, and interaction was good, though making it co-op truly made this great.
Final Fantasy VII
Though I don't typically like the jump on the Final Fantasy bandwagon considering I think there are much better RPG franchises out there, I have to say Final Fantasy VII made a huge leap in production value and cinematic RPG gameplay (gameplay in general actually). It was the first RPG that I played in which I felt like playing through an epic movie.
