Ico
Not a lot of action, but interesting, poignant, and beautiful. Makes you feel really smart when you solve some of the puzzles, lol. Incredible depth.
Okami
Has been described as similar to Zelda games, and I absolutely agree. It's so gorgeous I wanted to cry. Every last detail makes you feel like you're running through a watercolor painting. Tons of Japanese culture elements based on old legends. Incredibly fun and addicting. Only downside is the "voices" are jibberish syllables and get kind of annoying.
Shadow of the Colossus
Wow. Everyone needs to play this. It takes skill and practice to beat all 16 colossi and the time battles will have you pulling your hair out, but it's worth every minute. Graphics and physics are unbelievable. The horse is so lifelike and graceful and every camera angle makes you feel you're in the most epic movie you've ever seen.
Kingdom Hearts
I'm still boggled by the concept of putting FF characters together with Disney and that it actually worked. Tons of fun, lots of little secrets you can discover, colorful and beautiful and the storyline is excellent, if not very metaphorical (a very Japanese concept).
Kingdom Hearts II
Not as many little gimmicks and secrets, very straightforward, TONS of worlds and therefore lots more gameplay, generally easy, the beginning in Twilight Town is really slow and frustrating. Voice acting makes you giggle sometimes. Christopher Lee, FTW.
Final Fantasy VII
This game took me forever. But now I can fully appreciate the characters and storyline. The final go with Sephiroth was really funny, as I beat him in one try while Barrett was a frog the whole time. Dunno how I pulled that off.
Final Fantasy VII: Dirge Of Cerberus
Repetitive gameplay but I was really intrigued by the antagonists and their glowing outfits. Easy gameplay and game was longer than I expected. It had the generic "fruity boss with glowing eyes, feathers freaking everywhere, and no shirt" that is the norm for FF games. Made me laugh pretty hard.
Final Fantasy X
My first intro to the PS2 graphics and the FF world itself. Enjoyed every minute of it. The colors, the cutscenes, the bosses, the battle system, loved it all.
Final Fantasy X-2
It was like coming back home. Same world, new gameplay. Battle system is really fun and there are so many combinations with the attacks and costumes I would spend time battling just to see them all. The 100% completion thing was a major pain though. I still have 99% and I can't figure out WTF I missed. That was hard work too.
Final Fantasy XII
Longgame is loooong. Yeah I would get stuck wandering for hours only to get messed up by a big ol' dragon and not be able to find a save point in time. "Escaping" doesn't really work at all. The enemies all spot you and just keep piling up til you're royally screwed. Characters... Ashe is an indecisive princess, Basch is Boring, Vaan is a punk kid, Penelo is like his annoying sister. Balthier and Fran make the game worth actually playing, and are vaguely reminiscent of Han Solo and Chewie, times a thousand in the sexy department. Cutscenes are gorgeous, world is frikkin humongous, battle system works out okay.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Best. Zelda. Game. Ever. This game is just plain fun. The different temples are so diverse, riding Epona is fun by itself, TONS of secrets to be discovered, items are awesome, final boss battle rocks.
Katamari Damacy
Weird and whimsical. Hilarious. Addictive. The gameplay is unique and the music is catchy. One of my favorite examples of Japanese quirkiness.
