The Ubermensch is a concept expounded upon by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche in Thus Spoke Zarathustra. In that book, the protagonist, Zarathustra, contends that a man can become an Ubermensch (homo superior; the common equivalent English translation would be 'super-human'; see below) through the following steps:
1. By his will to power, manifested creatively in overcoming nihilism and re-evaluating old ideals or creating new ones.
2. By his will to power, manifested destructively in the rejection of, and rebellion against, societal ideals and moral codes.
3. By a continual process of self-overcoming.
