Movies
Just finished a Tribes 2 storybased movie with over a 100 of players having been acting in it. The release is planned on the 30st of March, which is exactly 6 years after the release of the game. As you might have noticed, it was planned too soon. After this movie, I'd like to film perfect teamplay, rather with a (new) torque engine.
Tribal Warriors released!
Tribal Warriors

Released!
05-08-07I am pleased to announce the release of the Tribal Warriors film.
It is a storybased movie using the Tribes 2 game-engine for the footage. All characters you see are actually people controling them from all over the world. In fact, there were 167 actors, spread over all scenes. In addition, i made the effects reacting on the music.
You can download the movie here!

The movie

Start of project
I always wanted to film a huge scaled story based movie using Tribes 2. In January, 2006, i heard that i could give myself an assignment for school as long if you can find a teacher who will support you.I tried to make this movie in those 3 weeks i got. After those 3 weeks, the only thing i had was a script and a few scenes. But it was enough to pass my class.
Volunteers
In the days after those 3 weeks i kept working on it in my free time, it seemed to be a lot harder than i thought. Especially finding enough actors and playing together organised was tough. Some players were really active and wanted this movie to become a succes, most didn't care much and there were some who didn't even want this movie to be made at all. I couldn't pay anyone, it was still volunteer work, so i'm very gratefull to the players who did stay and help, for their help and lot's of patience.Story
The story is about a change in tribes history. A long time ago, the bioderms were a kind that got shot down by real tribals for fun. They couldn't do anything back, because they we're dumb. You could compare them with cows in our time. While they were nearing extinction, they evolved.. in order to survive. This turning point is brought to the screen.Information
The movie will be only about 12 minutes long, otherwise it will be too big to download. And yes, it will be free of course :) It's also not the usual 1,5 hours because these 12 minutes will take me a year. Maybe in the future I'll have a great team working non-stop on game-movies :)In big hollywood films, usually the first few scenes had the highest costs, to get the viewer drawn into the movie. That'll count for this movie as well..

Tribal Warriors: Trailer
Release
The trailer is really like how you would expect a trailer. The music is very important in it, cause it will have a big role in the main movie as well. I really think that video and music are equal of importancy. So far good reactions, but if you have any good critics or comments, let me know.. the main movie should be great to everyone.Download
If you intend to watch the trailer, I really recommend you to download the avi instead of playing from google video. Also don't forget to turn on your sound system.Released: 01-14-07

Tribal Warriors: Log
16-01-06
Movie project start. A schoolmate and I were about to work for 3 weeks fulltime on the scenario, concept arts and filming. We also had to find a way to make the maps for this movie. Eventually someone made the maps for the big scenes and we used excisting maps.
31-01-06
Our first recording-day. We gathered as much people as we could to film the convoy traveling through the mountains. It where about 27 players and my first experience of coordinating a big group.
02-02-06
We started to film some smaller scenes, until the 8th of February.
26-02-06
We were supposed to start filming the biggest scene of the movie today. Unfortunately, after much spamming of IRC and forums, only 15/16 players showed up. While we hoped for 64. We filmed the scene anyway, only with far less players and I used the footage to make a little trailer movie and a site to gather more players for the next time. This website can be found here. People could also sign up now to be able to play in this scene.
26-03-06
The new date was exactly one month later. We had a bigger number now as on the 26th of Februari. We did the scene with the 31 players who were there. It took very long to get everyone on the right position and doing the right thing. Mostly because the were lots of people who just showed up and knew nothing about the movie or what to do. So all those other people who knew what to do had to wait for me instructing the newcomers. Nevertheless, it was quite a succes..
27-03-06
Now that I had all footage, I started editing and testing which codec was best, which resolution to use etc. etc.
21-09-06
I finished editing all scenes that I had, except for the big 64 player scene, I was still a bit disappointed that I didnt have that many players. I wanted to make something good, something special so I decided to try it again.
01-10-06
I e-mailed on the first of October everyone who had signed up once for this scene. Everyone who would reply, I would send a personal e-mail back with a number and the specific instructions for that character. There had been about 80 sign ups so far, about 50 replied on my first e-mail.
Eventually, I had 54 players instructed and for sure that they would show up on the 22nd of October.
22-10-06
The starting time was 8 pm (UTC+1), most people were there at that time, but there was no admin to change the map, while I arranged it a long time before. After 1 and a half hour, most people were tired of waiting and quit. So I moved it to the next week.
29-10-06
I thought that it might be better to practice in small groups first. I emailed everyone who I had in my list that this would only be a practice day for one paticular group. We walked the entire scene through and found some handy tricks to use and some things that i didnt think of yet, it was good that we did a walkthrough.
05-11-06
This was the 2nd practice day. Again, we found some things we otherwise never would have thought about.
12-11-06
The final date. Everyone who was there at practice had to show up this day as well. Ofcourse there were some people who werent able to make it today, but most people were there. We filmed some nice shots and I was satisfied about the result.
13-11-06
Now all that is left is editing, adding voices, music and sound effects.
26-12-06
The movie is ready for the voices to be added, at the moment is Sounds of Sirens Studio working on it. The trailer is almost done and will be released next week.
31-12-06
The only thing left to do for the trailer is adding the voice of the cool general and some finetuning. I also dont know how it all works with copyrights and stuff so I have to find that out as well..
I've also set a release date for the movie itself, i wonder if it's too early, anyway.. I'll try to make it. The trailer will be released next week friday :)
03-01-07
There are some problems with the sounds, I might not make it to release the trailer on friday.
14-01-07
Trailer released! Lot's of good critics :)
01-02-07
Decided to participate in the Creative Movies contest, there's an $2000 price for best movie. The final date should be the 20st of feb.
14-02-07
Found out that the 20st is too soon. Hellspawn is doing a great job with the voices, but it's even for him too soon to get the voices done.

T21C: The Making Of
Because the end-credits didn't fit in the ambience of T21C, I decided to make a Making Of and release it later. It's not quite fun to look at a video just showing the credits of some earlier released movie, so we tried to make this a movie itself.
