Summary:
Avid gamer. I work a lot with following the trends and the direction of the industry for my own interests and part of my career for a software distribution company.Focused primarily around the PC, I spent time in my past with development and design and since have not made much headway or spent much time in that realm. Hope to step back into it as my interests once again rise.
Interests:
I enjoy most things that send those pulses through the skull. The things that make your brain meat tingle and twitch when it's thought provoking. This is the way we learn, this is the way we adapt, this is how we are creative.I like thinking games, puzzle games, role playing games, and games that provoke emotion like drama or horror genres. On the flip side I seem to enjoy explosions, guns, fast animation and loud noises. For these reasons I like first person shooters, straight to the point spontaneous danger and violence, or tactical depends on how it's done. I also enjoy a good real time strategy game, so long as the mechanics are complex enough where you have to think and it's not just masses of units flying at each other. Which is only enjoyable when accompanied by a good soundtrack and a cool alcoholic beverage.
Speaking of soundtracks, I also enjoy music. For the most part I listen to anything. My preferred genres would be classical, rock or metal, and synth which leads mostly into old school videogame music and up to modern synth and industrial. I can dabble on the guitar myself and a bit of keyboards if my brain tugs me that way.
Goal:
Hope to get back into programming like I used to. I will be starting small projects through the year and inevitably end up pushing some concepts that have been mulling in my brain. My goal is to get back on track and into a game based project in either development or design.

Pound for pound, we're actually the most creative fucking industry in the history of the world. Being creative is actually pretty easy -- having the courage to challenge people, that's hard.

Ken Levine said,
If you want people to follow your plot it has to be really fucking stupid.

Just code the game that you want to make... There's only two genres that you need... cool and not cool.

Evan Skolnick said,
Video games are a product where the buyer didn't buy to read something -- they may not even want a story. You have to accept certain realities when writing in this business. You're not the next Hemingway, but even if you are, this isn't the place to show it. Your job is to write tight, efficient, serviceable story content. You are not the main attraction.

Ian Bogost said,
The point of marriage is not to make a commitment when we’re certain, but kind of the opposite: to make a commitment when we’re not certain. This idea of risking failure when you try to succeed at love suggests how beautiful and messy marriage is.
This Moment in "Tickle your Brain Meats"
Of each cube of thought that manages to be crammed through that proverbial brain tube we call imagination, it makes you wonder how many succulent morsels remain stuck forever, never to be devoured by a feverish reality craving it's non-uniform shape.

Sponge This! - Audible Inspiration
Sit back. Relax. Grab something to drink. Cool off or warm up. Prepare to think...Are you ready? Okay let's begin.
Music lends itself to emotion, through a sense that can't be reached through those sockets in your skull. It can trigger feelings you're not sure why, and many who have this gift can share a wonderful treat with all those willing to sponge it up.
I bring to you music that will provoke thought, perhaps make you think about a place you've been, place you wish to go to, or a place inside your mind. It may make you feel as if you should be moving, or perhaps just those little pulses in your body move.
Use these to help create creative impulses. Paint a vision for your environment, an activity for a character, a direction for your story.

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Coin Box
While we live in a free world, it sadly still costs coin to survive and enjoy those freedoms. Here you'll find a touch of what I do day to day to earn my coins and earn my keep in society. This is rant and babble from atop my "coin box".Note: This section is rather serious for the fun skimmers you may skip this and I won't feel offended.
RANT October 4th, 2007
This section is where I say I'm sorry for not updating more often. I had some really great things going with keeping this updated but I don't get around to it nearly as often as I used to.
Music, games, new promotion at work travelling for work, etc.
You may notice several sections have been inactivated for the time being. Worry not! For I will return with another rant from atop my coin box about Software DRM and how it applies to you, if you ever intend on using it in your software.
I'm going to step out and say almost every game publisher and company I've worked with has gone about it in entirely the wrong way. This doesn't mean everyone is doing it poorly, but it could mean you are.
Now that I've perhaps insulted your process you'll come back and read the full rant later. Or you'll just be angry and change it on your own. Either way I believe I have made an impact.
Stay tuned, we're reloading the coins as we speak.
