I started to create games when I was 14, with the DIV Games Studio compiler. I didn't finished most of them, but I had lots of fun and earned experience.
Although I've been learning languages and APIs such as C/C++, SDL or OpenGL, I rather code games with some games-oriented compiler and focus on the game itself and not on the engine. That's why I got a copy of BlitzMax.
