A game is a game to play, not to win

I'm a Game Development Student from Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

I enjoy playing games as I do making and designing them. Old-school vertical shooters/shoot'em ups, anything on the Wii, Music/Rhythm based games, and the Zelda series are my favorites. I respect the path that Nintendo has taken. Innovation and gameplay are key to a the success of the gaming industry. When graphics get to be too good then where do we go?

Art Side
Programs I've used and still learning are: Photoshop, Illustrator, UnrealEd, Maya, 3Ds Max, Flash, Torque Builder

Programming Side
Languages I've programmed in and still learning are: C++, C#, Visual Basic, Java, DirextX, XNA

Other Sides
Acid Pro, Sound Forge, Audition

I'm not a great or even much of a programmer and much prefer the art side of gaming.

I think it's wrong that only one company makes the game Monopoly

I'm not sure if you read my ideas from the group or from my page. The ones on my page are updated and tweaked, so I have edited them every time I thought of something. If you read them from my group, I'd understand, but after I posted the ideas there, I fleshed out the idea of the Massive World game to be like an Animal Crossing / Spore hybrid.
What made GTA, Animal Crossing, and The Sims great games was the open environments and freedom, I'm trying to recreate that while putting in a twist of an adventure game- something along the lines of Metroid, but only with scanning and no shooting, if you can imagine. Also, part of the game Myst's appeal was the environments, not just the puzzles, so I really think environments will be the key to this game.
I believe a game which focuses on collecting data would be fun because it would be like going on an adventure. The objective is really to catalogue the life forms on the planet by taking pictures and collecting specimens of the life forms and materials on the planet. Every time you collect an object, information on the object would appear, such as what the object is made of, its function in the environment, etc. etc. The pictures and samples will then be shared online by being sent through the servers and finally, other players will have access to them and be able to comment on them and grade them.

No sweat, not looking for folks who don't love Java. As for content, I've got enough going keeping up with my own stuff. The Java group is supposed to be just that, a group effort, but so far folks are just joining and then going silent. Believe me, I'm trying.

Don't just "rate" the Java group, join and contribute. Things don't happen in a vacuum.
