Career Summary
Having graduated from a Physics with Astrophysics degree I picked up C/C++ programming mostly in my own time, taking in some OpenGL and Direct3D along the way. I have just started work as a junior programmer with a UK developer.
Simply, the titles that have provided my greatest gaming experiences. Games that remind me why I love games.
Sometimes criticised now, I think its easy to forget how fantastic this game was that first time around. Absolutely amazing in every respect and in my book still my greatest gaming experience.
My favourite PC game: a perfect blend of FPS with RPG elements; this is an atmospheric, conspiracy-filled joy with a cracking story layered with a rare depth in that it provokes you to make decisions based on morality.
Undoubtedly one of the least widely played games on this list, and criminally so. The Sega Saturn's Magnum opus sadly only saw a limited production run, but is an awe-inspiring work that should never be forgotten.
The Shining Force games on the Mega Drive/Genesis were brilliant, but this took things up a notch. Hugely entertaining, epic turn-based battles perforate a great story with some nice visuals. Another Sega Saturn great.
The game that popularised "survival-horror" still leaves most of its followers in its wake. The claustrophobic setting - you can't ever go outside the mansion and its grounds - contributes to what is a suspenseful and intense classic.
I had heard this game was good before playing it but, boy, was it. Great characters, the Light side/Dark side system and a superb story featuring one of the best plot twists I've seen in a game - superb, immersive stuff.
A game not all will love, but if you can enjoy a compelling story told throughout a game where you, as the main character, do what you want progressing as and when (remembering to sleep), you will find a thing of beauty here.
Okay, this was not the first MMORPG by any means, but whereas previous examples had made good with the MMORP, WoW is a truly great GAME. Blizzard sure know their stuff, and this title converted many to a new type of game.
Interesting one this. The same year Quake came out, this FPS also did with the definitive version being the Sega Saturn one: Lobotomy did a great job here. Great level designs and some stages that still strike fear into my heart!
Imperious turn-based strategy classic - any of the Civ instalments could go here really, but this was the first game I actually lost entire days to. Incredibly addictive but also very satisfying. Just... one... more... turn...
Easily on a par with its predecessor and bettering it in some respects, this was exactly what Resident Evil fans wanted from a sequel. Oh and the licker running across the window is one of the most scary/awesome moments in a game.
