Gina-Marie Hammer

I'm an independent game developer with four years of experience. I'm in the process of starting my own company - NetjerSoft - and our first game is due to release some time in 2009.

I have a degree in accounting, a combined minor in English and Education, and have worked with computers and programming languages since I was twelve. I've worked as an editor for GarageGames, helping to solidify some of the TGB tutorials; as a rules designer for the MMORPG kit; and as a programmer for Harmonic Convergence.

Taking on outside contracts is one of my favorite things, because it allows me to work on a variety of projects.

It's been a while since I've been back. "Life has a way of coming at you fast", if you believe the Nationwide Insurance commercials. I've been working on art assets since January 1st and I should have some 3d character concepts, and possibly some test sprites to post very soon.

The Gemstone Texture Pack has been selling well - thanks for all the support! Look here for updates regarding the Crystal Texture Pack around the first week of March.

For more information, please check out my GG Blog Post at: http://www.garagegames.com/blogs/48412/14260

Thanks!

May 21, 2007 - 20:04 THE GEMSTONE TEXTURE PACK IS HERE!!!

It contains 435 textures of different gemstones, in 34 different categories. Textures are taken from actual gems, no texture is smaller than 128x128, and all textures are seamless for easy tiling. Textures were taken from specimens with everything from cracks to sparkle, and represent various states such as faceted, polished and raw. Many groups include multiple faceted types of texture, since different styles of faceting produce different effects in the gemstone. You may see textures with a horizontal effect, from an emerald-cut facet, or with spiral patterns from a round cut facet.

Check out the NetjerSoft
website for more information, or Click here: http://www.netjersoft.com/gemstoneTextureList.htm to see a list of all included textures.

Well, I have additional work on the Gemstone Texture Pack here: Click Here. I've also made gem models and applied various gemstone textures to them. I'll be linking them through the Pharoah's Frenzy page.

Lots of new stuff coming up with Pharaoh's Frenzy. We've got two new concept drawings - Pharaoh Upandatem was done by Aaron Habibipour , and The Archaeologist
was done by Nauris Krauze . Check them out!

I've posted an initial blog and some samples of textures I'm currently working on at this link:

I've burned out on programming for a bit, and have turned my attention to the art pipeline for Pharaoh's Frenzy. My art skills are limited to 2-dimensional design, mostly abstract, so I'm working to bring my art education up-to-date. Currently, I'm working on modeling, learning a new modeling package, and trying to understand the art pipeline better.

I've decided to release the models, sprites and textures that I'm working on as resource packs to the community. I've noticed there's a very large gap in the availability of free - original - sprites. There are many sites that make rips available from existing games, but only two or three sites with original work. Since I need so many generic sprites for my game, and since I'm making so many extra items during the learning process, I'm hoping to compile these items into packs (when they're good enough) and make them available for download. In the meantime, I'll try to keep everyone updated on my progress here and through my GG blog and website.

I've been working steadily on a small game called "Bring Back Music". It's supposed to be a cheesy little game I'll give as a Christmas present to someone. (Obviously late.) I'm so busy with that, my artist is practically pulling his hair out, because I'm not doing any coding for him (we have a deal going). I'll try to post it for download after I've given it to my friend. I want him to see it first.

Christmas was great, though. My parents decided to invest in my business by replacing my outdated laptop with a new one. They also got me an external hard drive that's making migration from one machine to another a breeze. I'm so pleased!

Well, I've gotten the Harmonic Convergence credits to a point where all that remains is tweaking and adding in the additional artwork as Jon gets it to me. With my newly-found free time, I'm looking for more work, helping a friend with coding in exchange for some art, and pushing forward on PF.

I had a brainstorm earlier today and managed to fix the thief. I never did get the Simset issues squared away, but after a week or more of ignoring the project, my brain finally kicked out a simple counting solution while I was doing something else entirely. Let's hear it for that coding-epiphany moment!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! (Apologies to those who don't celebrate, but I'm off to my Aunt's house to eat entirely too much good food. <sends pecan pie and orange-cranberry relish to Tom Bampton>) Have a great day today, guys. :))

I got a new programming gig. Just a short one. But it means putting PF on hold for a little bit till I finish up. :> Since I'm still wracking my brain over the Simset problem, I'm okay with that.

Well, I'm guessing people just use Uber Modules for blogging, so that's what I'm going to do. There's been a lot of progress on PF, despite code issues, a few contract jobs for other developers and the Christmas holidays coming up. I'm hoping to have more screenshots and a PF blog on that page ASAP.
