Zooey Ball
This site doesn't seem to handle Chinese characters not that I'm actually Chinese anyway. I'm from England, currently living and working in China, heading up the mobile games section of a multimedia company in Dalian.

| Game | What I Did | Difficulty of Development | Anecdote |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design, Graphics, Programming, Testing, Porting | Average | Smooth and relatively painless. My first solo expedition into creating a mobile phone game using J2ME, and apart from some minor annoyances and differences between phone models the whole thing went almost like clockwork. Game design, level editor / solution checker, interface, engine, graphics for multiple resolutions, porting to various other phone models and resolutions. Whole lot took about 1.5 months. Only external help was from my girlfriend who translated all the help, instructions, web site etc into Chinese. | |
| Design, Graphics, Some coding, Testing | Still having nightmares | First project leading a group of chinese developers. I still have nightmares from all the "not in China" excuses for all the design changes made behind my back (only to later see them revert to my initial design after they had played and tested their versions). One of the hardest parts was getting the game to work on the primitive s40's and getting the JAR small enough without killing the gameplay. The result turned out better than I grown to expect during the development, but fell short in a few areas with a few display issues not being fixed to my satisfaction. Best aspects of it though was the compression of the level data and the quests data system. More info on the game at: http://www.betopgame.com/web/dod |
