I started programming in BASIC when I was 6. I had numerous second-hand home computers throughout the 80's and early 90's, my favorites being the ZX81, TI/99-4A, Tandy Coco 2, VIC-20, Commdore 128D, and my absolute favorite, the TRS-80 Model II. The Model II was where I jumped from BASIC to Z80 assembler. Then when I finally got a PC (first one being an 8088 "Commuter computer" -- go look that one up), I explored x86 assembler, which went great with my love of Turbo Pascal throughout much of the 90's.
Eventually, after much kicking and screaming, I made the leap to C and eventually C++. And then around 1999-2000 I started learning PHP, and, well, I left a horrible 411 directory assistance job to start working full time for a small IT consulting firm on the shoreline here in Connecticut.
Nowadays I spend my days doing PHP, SQL, and HTML at work, and hacking on C++ and PHP at night. I've recently found myself taken by surprise by C#.
