Dawn of Civilization: Developer's Log

Developer's Log represents what I'm doing to work on Dawn of Civilization week-by-week.

Up to 27 Sept '07: Wow - I've gone a LONG time without updating this thing. So much has changed, it'd probably take three pages to detail it all. The demo was released way back when, and then I went back to work - added some more advanced graphical features like "glow", bump-mapping, and cinematic-quality models; lots of new units/buildings; enemy AI; etc., etc. The game engine remains (barely) tolerable - it runs fine on low, but I'm not really happy with it.

Up to 6 Apr '07: I've been finalizing several aspects of the game to make a scenario demo. To be specific, I've created a new "peninsula" map, implemented randomized forest sizes (small, medium, and large, with set numbers of each), implemented the various stone/copper/iron/etc. resource deposits, created a "flying" approach to your base across the sea, created a backdrop for the resource panel, made the game start ~25% faster and use somewhat less memory by making trees copy their models, and laid out a plan of action for creating the demo.

Up to 3 Apr '07: Switched resource buildings to increments per second; switched Barley Farm to making Barley Special Resource; implemented Market model, Market, Grain Farm, Barley Farm, Woodcutter, Mining Camp icon images; implemented population indicator; fixed resource production; created range circle for placing structures; implemented the upgrading of houses; fixed minor interface inconsistency; fixed bug with houses and TC; fixed visual error with TC.

Up to 26 Mar '07: Implemented new "leafier" tree texture. Implemented Barley Farm, Grain Farm. Implemented market (no model). Implemented palisade walls. Added testing catapult w/ Greek Fire. Added testing soldier w/ walking animation. Converted all 15 skies to proper format. Created loadingbase program. Began work on folder structure. Partly fixed directive cursor. Fixed g3d->obj converter.

17 Mar '07: Added three ambient music pieces. Created and implemented Forge model/building. Implemented 2E house, watchtower. Converted and implemented sunset sky.

Career Summary

I have been a game developer for about five years now; I have some experience in Java, Delphi, and C#. I have entered my games in multiple contests - including GameDev.net's 4 Elements 5, in which I placed 5th - won two, and placed in two.
