everythingAverageThe game was developed for a ludum dare 48h game design competition, and the theme was 'infection'.

Thus, it was only fitting that I fell ill, and the game was pretty much completely done within the first 24 hours. Sorry about the lack of polish =)

Design, codeAverageThis was a school project. The project was for a 'application development' course before we had had any programming courses, so the teacher asked who knows how to code, and then split the class so that each team had one programmer.

A major challenge for the project was to think of something to do for the whole team, as nobody else knew anything useful (game development-wise). Also, nobody else seemed to have any time for the project outside school.

I also ended up defending the project to the teacher who couldn't believe that a game like this could be done within the time frame. Even after this we didn't get full score from the course, because the project wasn't "mind blowing". I wonder what she was after..

Anyway, the game ended up having translations in different languages (by different people than myself), and the graphics were done using windows paint (by someone else), etc. Music was some old stuff done by my brother.

Everything except sfxHarder than PlannedWhile I was unemployed after finishing my (mandatory) military service, I taught myself windows programming, and needed some kind of project to chew on. This is the result.

I also submitted this to a game design competition which was conveniently organized at the time. The entries were published before the results, and the results were published after the finnish computer magazine publishing deadline was closed. Result: my game, which did not win the contest, was most prominently shown of all the entries, as the magazines were certain that I would win.

The winner was some kind of cave-flying shooter with some strategy elements. I don't know if that game ever even got finished (the entry was a preview build).

CodeAverageI got this idea of using indie music as background music for a game, and a friend of mine was looking for a coder to build a game that he had been thinking about for quite some time. Assembly'06 was coming, so I figured what the heck and coded the game. I contacted dozens of indie bands, and a bunch of them agreed to have their music in the game, making this one the first ever freeware game with licensed music. Cheers!

EverythingLived in my cubeThis was my first ludum dare 48h game design contest entry. That is, the game was designed and built from scratch within 48 hours. I lived a bit too much in crunch mode for this game, and the source code isn't pretty - adding things like "play again" after the whole game logic was done wasn't exactly easy, especially with a couple hours left to the deadline.. and a fatal crash wiping out my source code, forcing me to grab backups and recoding a lot of stuff. It was still fun, and the game turned out pretty well.
